The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) successfully concluded its 89th Academic Council meeting under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, President of IIUI. The meeting was attended by approximately 45 members, including two nominees from the Board of Governors, who engaged in extensive deliberations on key academic matters.
During the session, the Council reviewed and resolved 27 agenda items submitted by various departments across the university. Major decisions included the establishment of new departments and academic cells, ratification of updated curricula for undergraduate and graduate programs, and the introduction of new academic policies in alignment with the guidelines of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the university’s academic framework.
The Council also approved the launch of several new academic programs and departments. These include MS and PhD programs in Translation Studies under the Faculty of Arabic, as well as a BSC Engineering Technology in AI and Cyber Security, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET). Additionally, the creation of a new Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences and the approval of a BS program in Computational Genetics were endorsed for the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FoC&IT).
A key highlight of the meeting was the approval of two new undergraduate programs: Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Artificial Intelligence) and Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Cyber Security). These programs, proposed by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, are designed to meet the increasing global demand for skilled professionals in rapidly evolving technological fields. Both programs are scheduled to commence from Fall 2025.
It was emphasized that these decisions are part of the university’s broader strategy to enhance academic excellence, strengthen innovation, and ensure that educational offerings remain responsive to contemporary global challenges.
The measures approved during the session are expected to enrich the academic environment at IIUI and contribute meaningfully to the institution’s standing as a center of quality higher education.
