FIRST LADY STRESSES PROMOTION OF TOLERANCE IN SOCIETY

First Lady Begum Samina Alvi on Wednesday said that intolerance is the root cause of the many societal issues and its solution only lies in following the life of Holy Prophet (PBUH).
She was addressing a Seerat un Nabi (PBUH) conference held at the Faisal Masjid Campus organized by Dawah Centre for Women (DCW) of Dawah Academy, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).

Begum Samina Alvi stressed upon adopting the teachings of Islam and disseminating the attitudes of peaceful co-existence adding that Islam is the religion that provides a comprehensive plan of life to live and let live others with peace and tolerance. The First Lady opined that knowledge, education and tolerance are the keys to take a society to the heights of glory and success. She said the great virtues of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) such as high morals and tolerance attracted people to the true message of Islam.

Islam was accepted due to the affability the society found in the life and teachings of Holy Prophet (PBUH). She also opined that education of women in the light of the teachings of Seerah is important saying that it would help in building a well tolerant society.
Begum Samina Alvi also stressed upon a robust awareness campaign about breast cancer to reduce the mortality rate in women and highlighted the vital aspects of timely screening, precautionary measures and treatment. Begum Alvi regretted that due to the delayed diagnosis of breast cancer, numerous lives were lost whereas it was prevalent in a large number of women which was a matter of grave concern.
In the conference, keynote address was delivered by Nighat Hashmi, a famous scholar, who opined that intolerance is the devil’s attitude that ultimately leads to deterioration. She presented the historical landscape of the tolerant and intolerant attitudes saying that tolerance and urge to peace are the attributes of Prophets. She added that fear of Allah Almighty always protects human from intolerance , while intolerance she said is all about uncertainty, chaos , unrest and societal challenges. She presented the examples of the life of Holy Prophet such as happenings of Taif and Hudaibia accord.
On the occasion, Vice President female campus, Dr. Samina Malik thanked the first lady for sparing time and joining the conference. She vowed that IIUI would continue such efforts to disseminate peace in the society.
Dr. Faryal Ambreen, Incharge, DCW apprised the audience of the aims and objectives of the conference, while she also elaborated the role of DCW and scope of Dawah Academy.
The event was also attended by Director General Shariah Academy, Dr. Farkhanda Zia, senior officials of the female campus, faculty members and a large number of students.
