Unit of Anthropology

Unit of Anthropology, International Islamic University Islamabad has been initiated with the vision to develop a breed of professionals who can understand the problems of Pakistani society from local as well as holistic perspective and can come up with more viable solutions to contribute to their circle of influence, organizations and society at large. Our students will be equipped with the relational and analytic tools to operate effectively within the social complexity of our dynamic world and engage people cross-culturally, both in Pakistan and abroad.

1. Market Viability and Job Opportunities

In this age of cut throat competition where downsizing is a buzz word, Anthropologists have openings in almost all sorts of organizations like:

a. International Developmental Organizations (World Bank, United Nations Development Project, Asian Development Bank, US Aid etc),

b. Non Government Organizations (National Rural Support Programme, Agha Khan Rural Support Programme etc),

c. Business Organizations (Marketing, Product Development, Entrepreneurship etc.), Multi National Corporations (McDonald, KFC, Telenore etc.),

d. Educational & Government Institutions and Policy Making Bodies.

This market viability is because of the special mental model based on Holistic, Emic and Relative perspective of Anthropology that is ingrained in its graduates.

2. Programmes of Anthropology at FSS-IIUI

Unit of Anthropology has primarily offered following two programmes:

a. BS in Anthropology 4 (four) years

b. MSc in Anthropology 2 (two) years

The unique features of Anthropology programmes in IIUI are as following:

BS in Anthropology is offered first time in Pakistan—no other university is offering BS in Anthropology.

New courses e.g. Anthropology of Human Resource Management, Business Anthropology, Anthropology of Pakistan etc. are conceived and designed.

Separate campuses for male and female students which help students to focus more on themselves and earn a market viable degree in a highly normative setting of IIUI.
