Workshop on “Surviving the Publish or Perish Cycle: Effective Publication Strategies”
Keeping in view the significance of research publication the, Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, organized a workshop titled “Surviving the Publish or Perish Cycle: Effective Publication Strategies” in collaboration with ORIC, IIUI. Workshop was aimed to enhance the publication skills and maximize the impact of their academic contributions of MS and Ph. D scholars.
Dr. Inayat Ali, Assistant professor, (Department of Anthropology Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi), graced the event as resource person. Objectives of the workshop were to select appropriate journals and navigate the submission process. Practical and hands-on sessions were conducted to provide guide lines on, strategies to respond to reviewers’ comments constructively, how to handle rejections professionally, writing clear and concise research titles and abstracts. Moreover, various strategies to increase the research citation were discussed, e.g, produce high-quality research, something to publish not Publish something, crafting appealing title, abstract, keywords, networking and collaboration virtual, conferences and collaborate with citable authors.
The workshop session was concluded with the address by Dr. Munazza Mahmood, Incharge, Department of Educational Leadership and Management; she mentioned the common pitfalls that researchers encounter, such as inadequate literature reviews, unclear research questions, and poor adherence to journal guidelines. The participants expressed their appreciation for the actionable insights gained through the experience. Dr. Inayat Ali highlighted that the training session clarified the publication process and equipped them with confidence to pursue their publishing goals. To acknowledge the resource person, Dr. Munazza Mahmood, presented shield to the resource person.
Seminar on Leveraging AI Tools in Academic Research: Enhancing Scholarly Productivity and Innovation
The Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education , organized a seminar titled “Leveraging AI Tools in Academic Research: Enhancing Scholarly Productivity and Innovation”, for research students of BS, MS, and Ph. D. The seminar aimed to equip participants about the significant role of artificial intelligence (AI) in academic research, fostering productivity, and driving innovation. Dr. Sher Baz, (Assistant Professor, Dept. of ELM) was a resource person. In the opening session, he provided an overview of how AI tools are substantial in academic research.
He demonstrated various AI-driven tools for writing the literature review, data analysis techniques, and AI-assisted academic writing platforms, e.g. chatpgt, Gemini etc. Moreover, he mentioned, that the researchers need to be vigilant while applying AI tools use platforms with strong data security measures and comply with institutional and legal data protection guidelines. AI tools help refine academic writing by improving grammar, style, and structure. They can assist in drafting sections of papers, generating ideas for abstracts, and checking for plagiarism. Faculty members from the Department of Teacher Education also graced the seminar.
At the end of the session, Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge, Department of ELM), acknowledged the interactive session followed by the resource person and shared her views about the application of AI tools in research is powerful in academic research, offering significant advantages in productivity, accessibility, and innovation. By leveraging these tools responsibly, researchers can enhance their work while maintaining academic integrity and excellence.
Islamabad, December 17, 2024: A seminar titled as “Exploring the Education System in Developing and Developed Countries: Innovations and Opportunities to Learn from Each Other” was organized by the PHD scholars under the supervision of Dr. Fatima Maqsood Assistant Professor from the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, IIUI on December 17, 2024. The seminar was commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. The event was graced by the Chairperson, Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM) Dr. Azhar Mehmood as Chief Guest; Incharge of the ELM Department Dr. Munazza Mehmood, Incharge of the Teacher Education Department Dr. Alina Raza, and various faculty members from the Faculty of Education Dr. Asad Abbas Rizvi, and Dr. Fatima Batool, Ms. Bushra Rehman along with research students of MS and PhD.
The major objective of the seminar was to explore global education systems and identify innovative practices from developed countries that can be adapted to strengthen Pakistan’s education system, while showcasing local initiatives that can serve as models for other developing nations. The seminar’s highlight was a series of engaging presentations by PhD Scholars who analyzed the education systems of different developed and developing countries such as Finland, Australia, Japan, Singapore, China, USA, UK, Malaysia, Bhutan, India, Korea etc. Each presentation offered unique insights into the curriculum designing and implementation, teaching methodologies, teacher training mechanisms, examinations and assessment procedures, financing of education, usage of ICT in education and highlighted strengths and challenges of the systems, along with suggestions and lessons learned for Pakistan’s higher education system. Each presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A session where participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions on adapting global practices locally in Pakistan.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Azhar Mehmood, highlighted the significance of student-led initiatives in shaping the future of education. He acknowledged the valuable role of youth in driving educational reform and commended the student presenters for their forward-thinking approach and insightful analysis of various education systems. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to address global education challenges and contribute to meaningful advancements in the sector.
The course instructor, Dr. Fatima Maqsood, appreciated the students’ efforts in analyzing complex education systems and presenting innovative ideas. She acknowledged the value of their work in providing meaningful perspectives on how strengths from various systems can be leveraged to enhance education globally and in Pakistan. She emphasized the importance of action-oriented learning and the need to implement innovative ideas to foster global partnerships for the improvement of education systems. Other faculty members also actively participated in the discussions providing constructive feedback and insights.
The event concluded with a Certificate Distribution Ceremony, where Dr. Azhar Mehmood and Dr. Fatima Maqsood presented certificates of appreciation to the student presenters and organizers. The seminar closed with bilateral votes of thanks, marking a successful and impactful event.
Faculty of Education Holds Strategic Meeting to Advance Academic and Administrative Goals
The Faculty of Education, IIUI, held an engaging and strategic meeting on Thursday, November 21, 2024, chaired by Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Associate Professor and In-Charge Programs. In-charges and faculty members from the Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM) and the Department of Teacher Education (TE) attended the meeting.
The meeting began with a recitation of the Holy Quran followed by an opening address from Dr. Azhar Mahmood. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration, noting that the Worthy President, IIUI, has expressed confidence in the faculty’s potential and assured full institutional support. Faculty members, including reiterated their readiness to contribute to the faculty’s growth and pledged their full cooperation.
Key decisions were made to ensure streamlined academic and administrative operations. These included the reconstitution of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) committees, updating the Training Needs Analysis, and enhancing documentation for MS and PhD programs. Faculty members were also reminded to update LMS and CMS platforms regularly. The chair discussed that as Admissions for Spring 2025 are opening, both Departments should provide the strengths of the programs for highlighting by Admission and Protocol sections of the university. The admission campaign for increasing enrollment in all degree programs may be planned and executed.
A proposal for a Faculty-Level Academic Calendar was also discussed. Additionally, measures to strengthen student engagement through an interactive Student Affairs Committee and to enhance the visibility of faculty achievements via departmental website updates were emphasized.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by the chair, acknowledging the faculty’s dedication and commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation. This productive session highlighted a collective vision for advancing the Faculty of Education’s academic, administrative, and research activities.
Qualitative and Quantitative Data Analysis Software
Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education organized a highly informative workshop on “Qualitative and Quantitative Data Analysis Softwares” for MS and Ph. D scholars. Purpose of the event was to equip research students with advanced tools for data analysis, crucial for their ongoing and future research work/thesis.
Dr. Fatima Maqsood. (Assistant professor, Dept. of ELM), vibrantly conducted the first collaborative session on various methods of qualitative data analysis techniques through softwares (MXQDA, Qurikos etc). She demonstrated the software NVivo, leading qualitative data analysis software. Participants were introduced to the software’s specification for organizing, analyzing, and visualizing qualitative data such as interviews, focus groups, and content analysis. The hands-on session allowed students to learn how to code data, identify patterns, themes, and report write-up which is essential for presenting research findings in a structured and insightful manner.
Fatima Batool. (Assistant proessor, Department of Teacher Education) headed the second session on quantitative data analysis, emphasizing techniques in transforming raw data into a meaningful description. Furthermore, she conducted a practical session to perform statistical analysis for SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences), one of the most widely used tool for quantitative data analysis. She provided an overview of its features, including descriptive statistics, regression analysis, and hypothesis testing. Research students were guided through the process of importing data, conducting statistical tests, and interpreting results.
Throughout the workshop, participants were encouraged to engage in interactive discussions, ask questions, and explore examples of how these tools could be applied to their own research projects/thesis. Several research studies were presented, reflecting how the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods can enrich research findings.
In closing, Dr. Azhar Mahmood (Chairperson, Department of ELM), appreciated the trill of learning of research scholar and workshop organizers. Dr. Asad Abbas Rivi (Incharge, Academic Affairs, Department of ELM), acknowledged the active involvement and encouraged them to continue exploring these powerful tools. Teachers’ Day Celebrations by Faculty of Education
Teachers’ Day holds great importance in all over the world since 1994, acknowledging the vital role of teachers in shaping individuals and society. This annual celebration honors teachers’ dedication to imparting knowledge and values, fostering curiosity, and molding future generations. Following this tradition, Department of Teacher Education and Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education celebrated this day on 9th October, 2024 in Female Campus of IIUI. This day not only recognizes teachers’ tireless efforts but also underscores the transformative power of education.
The reception area of Fatima-tuz-Zahra block was decorated with paper flowers, and artwork, to create a warm and inviting and attractive atmosphere. Along with this, event was celebrated in auditorium of Fatima-tuz-Zahra Block featured with several speeches highlighting the pivotal role that teachers play in shaping the future in both academic and personal development of students. Moreover, students presented poems dedicated to their teachers. These heartfelt pieces captured the essence of mentorship, inspiration, and the lasting bonds formed in the classroom. A group of students performed a short role play depicting a typical classroom scenario, showcasing the challenges and during the class and exams. This engaging performance not only entertained the audience but also served to remind everyone of the hard work of teachers put into their profession.
Dr. Shamsa Aziz (Former Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education) also attended this event. She highlighted that teachers are architects of our future; each of you sitting here today, has a teacher who has impacted your life in profound ways. Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani (Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education) highlighted that teachers are the heroes who dedicate their lives to nurturing young minds. Their passion, foster creativity, and instill values that lasts for lifetime. Each one of us carries the imprint of a teacher who believed in us, even when we didn’t believe in ourselves. He further advised students to develop their IT skills to become good teachers and meet the demands of 21st century effectively.
Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge, Department of Educational Leadership and Management) presented a thought-provoking poem, highlighting the curiosity of students to embrace their learning, build confidence, and respect for teachers. Dr. Alina Raza, (Incharge, Department of Teacher Education) mentioned that, teachers serve as mentors, offering guidance and support in personal development. They help students navigate challenges, and make informed decisions about their futures. She stressed that as a teacher, we must do tireless efforts to elevate the status of our profession and build a legacy where every teacher feels honored and empowered.
At the end of session, to celebrate the greatest achievement of Faculty of Education in Spring Gala 2024 (First Prize in National Stalls for representing Punjab Culture) a video was played and diligent efforts of organizing team were acknowledged by the faculty members.
Seminar on “Rahamatullilaalmin: The Real Guarantor of Women Rights”
The Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, organized an insightful seminar on, “Rahamatullilaalmin: The Real Guarantor of Women Rights,” to highlight the profound role of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in advocating and protecting the rights of women. The event was aimed to focus the Islamic perspective of women’s rights, which continues to inspire modern discussions on gender equality. Initially student from different batched participated in recitation of naat.
Dr. Faryal Umbreen,(Incharge Dawah Center, IIUI) , graced the session as a guest speaker, delivered an interactive and thought-provoking speech. She highlighted that, the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) teaching provides a groundbreaking foundation for women’s rights, including rights of education, property, and dignity. She mentioned how the Prophet ensured the protection of women’s rights (as daughter, sister, wife and mother) within the family, society, and legal systems, setting a standard for justice and equity with reference to teachings of Quran and Sunnah. The resource person underlined the Prophet’s emphasis on education for both men and women, and the rights of inheritance for women, which was established by the Prophet (PBUH) in an era where women often had no legal or financial independence. The speaker also highlighted how the Prophet (PBUH) firmly opposed harmful practices such as domestic violence.
Seminar was also attended by the, faculty members from the Department of Teacher Education and Department of Educational Leadership and Management. At the end, questions from participants were addressed by providing, contemporary examples of how Islamic principles continue to inspire gender equality initiatives around the world.
Orientation Session for Newly Enrolled Students in Department of ELM
The Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education held a comprehensive orientation session for first-semester students of various programs, BS in Education (Educational Leadership and Management) and PhD Education (Educational Leadership and Management). Orientation session was aimed to familiarize new students with the department’s offerings, academic culture, and the range of resources available to support their new academic journey.
Ms. Sumaira Batool, Teaching/Research Associate (focal person activities) provided detailed briefings regarding rules and regulations of the University with reference to course registration process, attendance policy, grading criteria, scholarship resources, co-curricular activities and a detailed introduction of Faculty members of the Department.
Students were also encouraged to set high personal and academic standards for optimal growth in new journey and emphasize on the development of moral values, character building, sense of loyalty and honesty. Dr. Munazza Mahmood, (Incharge programs, Department of ELM), and Dr. Sayed Asad Abbas Rizvi also graced the event with their presence. The session was concluded with a gymnasium tour, led by senior students, helping the first-semester to familiarize themselves with key facilities available for sports’ activities.
Department of Educational Leadership and Management at IIUI Organizes CMS Training for Faculty and Staff
The Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM), Faculty of Education (FoE) at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), successfully organized an inclusive training session on the Campus Management System (CMS) for faculty and staff on September 13, 2024. Led by Dr. Munaza Mahmood, Incharge of the ELM Department, the training aimed to strengthen the digital skills of both academic and administrative staff, aligning with the university’s commitment to embracing modern technology for improved academic and administrative functions.
The newly introduced CMS at IIUI is designed to streamline administrative processes, optimize course registration management, and enhance communication between faculty and students. The session was conducted by Mr. Munir Baig, Deputy Director IT (Software), and Mr. Abdul Ghaffar, both experts in CMS operations. They provided valuable insights into efficiently managing student records and utilizing CMS features to support academic activities. Participants expressed their appreciation for the training, noting its practical relevance and the clarity with which the trainers delivered the content.
Dr. Munaza Mahmood highlighted the importance of integrating digital tools in everyday academic and administrative work to enhance workflow and ensure effective management within the institution. Civic Engagement of the Students of Department of Educational Leadership and Management
In a groundbreaking initiative, students of School, Society and Teacher from the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, has organized a comprehensive drive to enhance civic engagement across diverse schools in the areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Female students have conducted various activities for the commitment to community involvement at fostering active citizenship among its students and faculty.
Through collaboration with local schools and educational outreach programs, prospective teachers were equipped with the knowledge and tools to instill civic responsibility. This initiative aims to create a ripple effect and promoting civic engagement in the broader community by teaching on various modules related to literacy to the early-years and primary-level students.
Furthermore, students of both sections arranged an exhibition to raise awareness and drive action towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event aimed not only to foster creativity but, also to inspire a commitment to sustainable practices among the university students. The exhibition was held at female campus featured a diverse array of projects addressing various SDGs set forth by the United Nations. Each presentation was a reflection of the students’ dedication and passion for creating meaningful change in their communities and beyond. Through the models students presented the innovative solutions, for reducing poverty, establishment of quality education, climate action etc.
Dr. Shamsa Aziz, (Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education), graced the event and underlined that, the exhibition not only provided a platform for students to demonstrate their academic aptitude but also highlighted their role as future leaders in sustainable development. Moreover, Dr. Muanzza Mahmood, (Incharge, Department of Leadership & Management), also visited the exhibition and mentioned that, committed to integrating sustainability into its curriculum and fostering a culture of innovation and social responsibility among its students. It was also visited by the faculty members and students of various programs.
The exhibition session was concluded with a sense of optimism and determination, as students and faculty alike endorsed their commitment to advancing the SDGs through education, innovation, and community engagement.
Seminar Titled “Islam and SDGs (Sustainable Developmental Goals) In Social Work Perspective”
On 21st May, a seminar titled “Islam and SDGs (Sustainable Developmental Goals) In Social Work Perspective” was organized by Department of Education Leadership and Management (DoELM), Faculty of Education, with collaboration of Department of Sociology (DoS), Faculty of Social Sciences in Auditorium Fatima Block, Female Campus, International Islamic University Islamabad. Focal persons of this seminar were Dr. Saima Yasmeen, Ms. Kanwal Ejaaz, and Ms. Aimen Saif, while the role of organizers was played by students of BS 4th (DoELM) and students of BS 5th (DoS) The motive of this seminar was to provide students with awareness about sustainable developmental goals in social work perspective relating Islam with it and encourage them to think big, enabling themselves to build such organizations that could operate on a national scale and provide humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable and needy segments of society. Its purpose was also to motivate students for participating in diverse range of activities aimed at providing relief and development services to the most deprived and marginalized communities in the country.
Chief Guest of this seminar was Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge, DoELM), Guest of Honor was Dr. Rabia Ali (Chairperson, DoS) and Guest Speakers were Dr. Nomair Hassan Madni; General Secretary of Al-Khidmat Foundation, Mr. Tauseef Khan; Founder President and Chief Executive Officer of PCF (Progressive Climate Foundation), and Dr. Daniyal Shahid; CEO of Kafalaat Welfare Trust. Faculty members of both departments were also invited to attend and endorse the seminar.
The seminar began with the recitation of Holy Quran and afterwards respected speakers were invited to the stage to deliver their powerful and motivational words to the students. Mr. Tauseef Khan started his speech with explaining the role of Islamic practices like Zakat and Sadaqah in achieving sustainable development goals: to alleviate poverty and hunger, & promote good health and quality education. Islam teaches environmental responsibility and conservation. He also quoted a hadith to remind audiences to conserve water, even it is in abundance. He stated that Islamic values are aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Faith and social work combine for a positive impact. He raised the motto to strive for a better world, guided by compassion.
Dr. Numair Hassan Madni, presented the concept of sustainable development goals with an Islamic perspective, by quoting verses from the Holy Quran. He highlighted the importance of serving humanity and showcased Al-Khidmat Foundation’s projects, including providing food, shelter, education, and healthcare to vulnerable communities. Dr. Madni’s speech emphasized the Islamic values of social work and services to mankind. He highlighted the foundation’s decades of service to marginalized communities.
Dr. Daniyal Shahid highlighted Kafalat Welfare Trust’s (KWT) initiatives in this seminar. He told that the trust’s programs have made a significant impact, including: supporting 59 individuals through the Rozgar Program, aiding 2,700 people through the Eid Drive, and providing food to 1,274 individuals through the Ramzan Ration Program. Additionally, KWT has distributed laptops to 24 students, treated 10,112 patients through free medical camps, and provided 3,665 bags of food to those in need. KWT’s efforts demonstrate its commitment to serving the community and improving lives.
Afterwards, Dr. Munazza Mahmood took the stage, delivering a heartfelt thank you speech to the guests. She expressed her gratitude for their presence and support. Dr. Munazza then turned her attention to the students, encouraging them to join the various trusts and be a part of their noble work. She inspired them to make a positive impact in their community. With passion and conviction, she urged the students to become part of Kafalat Welfare Trust’s and other foundations efforts to create a better world. Her words were met with applause and enthusiasm from the audience.

She expressed gratitude to the guest speakers, acknowledging their contributions and dedication. She encouraged the audience to get involved in social work, emphasizing its value and significance. Dr. Rabia Ali’s speech was inspiring and motivational, urging everyone to make a difference in their community. Her words left a lasting impact on the audience. At the end, souvenirs were given to chief guest, guest of honor, guest speakers and focal persons & group photo with main organizers was taken.
One Day Workshop title: Unlocking Your Voice: A Workshop on Effective Communication Skills Held on Thursday, 16th May, 2024
The 5th semester students of the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad, organized a one-day workshop titled “Unlocking Your Voice: A workshop on Effective Communication Skills” on Thursday, 16th May 2024. This event was part of their coursework for “Communication Skills.”
Dr. Fatima Maqsood, Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, was the focal person for this activity. The workshop was honored by the presence of Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson of the Department of Teacher Education, and Dr. Munazza Mahmood, Incharge of the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, as Chief Guests. Dr. Fatima Batool (Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education), Ms. Sumaira Batool (Teaching and Research Associate, Department of Educational Leadership and Management), and other female faculty members from both departments also attended the event.
The workshop began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. The workshop included five groups that conducted various activities aimed at improving communication skills among students:
The workshop featured various hands-on activities. One activity involved mock interview sessions to enhance students’ confidence, verbal articulation, and body language, with feedback provided to improve performance. Another activity, “Commercial Time,” had students create and present mock commercials, focusing on verbal communication, creativity, and persuasive language skills.
A “Picture Description (Story Writing)” exercise tasked students with writing stories based on given pictures to improve creative writing, imagination, and descriptive language, followed by feedback on their writing style and narrative structure. Activities on “Non-Verbal Communication and Active Listening” used role-playing to practice gestures, facial expressions, posture, and listening skills. Additionally, a “CV Writing” session taught students how to compose effective CVs, highlighting their skills and experiences, with practical sessions for drafting and peer review.
At the end of the event, the certificates distribution ceremony was held to appreciate and encouraging the participants. The workshop was a resounding success, with students gaining valuable skills and confidence in their communication abilities.
Punjab Cultural Stall Organized by the Faculty of Education Won First Prize in National Cultural Stall Competition
On 14th May, 2024 as the main segment of spring gala Punjab cultural stall was organized by Faculty of Education. Chief organizers (Focal Persons) of this activity were Dr. Fatima Batool (Focal person, Department of Teacher Education, DoTE), Ms. Sumaira Batool (Focal person, Department of Educational Leadership and Management, DoELM), and Dr. Fatima Maqsood (Assistant Professor, Department of Educational Leadership and Management). Among students, Syed Haram Raza from DoTE and Iqra Pervaiz from DoELM played the very effective role of lead organizers. Beisdes, 34 students from both departments actively played their energetic and appreciative role to make this event successful.
Chairperson, DoTE Dr. Shamsa Aziz and Incharge DoELM Dr. Munazza Mahmood and female faculty members of both departments grace this activity with their presence. To reflect the real culture, organizers of this activity arranged live multiple segments of Punjab living. Panaflexs, standee and charts were created to provide pictorial glimpses of punajb culture. First segment in this stall was related to the work and motivated kalam of Sufia Karam, two students played the role of Mian Muhmmad Bakhsh and Bullay Shah, and they uttered few lines from their kalam.
Legendary characters of Heer and Ranjha were presented.
A system of Panchait was there to resolve local conflicts. To represent the village culture, a corner of farms was presented with swing, wheat field, farmer and his wife, tractor with driver, and pigeons. Another segment was of Punjabi housewife working in Kitchen using traditional pottery, there was also a well and pots and pans hanging tree constructed by students.
A local wedding ceremony was represented by students, characters of local bride and groom, bride friends playing dholki, singing songs, and few were performing luddi with colorful dandiya sticks. A food stall was there with traditional food items such as Saag, Karhi Pakora, Kheer, Sohn Halwa, Makhan and Shakar, Achaar, Panjeeri, Zarda and Makai ki Rotti. A cultural stall was there where wedding event related, crockery related, and fashion items related items.
Rector Female Campus, Prof. Dr. Samina Malik, her team, Dr. Sadia Saleem and her team along with other judges and guests visited the stall and appreciated the efforts and hard work of faculty n members and students.
On 15th May, 2024, a ceremony was organized to appreciate the efforts of focal persons and students and it was announced that Faculty of Education won first prize on arranging an impressive stall to represent Punjab culture. Focal persons of both departments pay their gratitude to all faculty members, students and staff members for their contributions in making this event successful and memorable.
Civic Engagement of Students of the Department of Educational Leadership and Management
In a heartfelt gesture of appreciation and solidarity, students (BS Sec. B & C) from the Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM), Faculty of Education (FoE), organized a special appreciation session dedicated to the unsung heroes of their female campus – the sanitary workers. These individuals, often overlooked, play a pivotal role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across the campus grounds.
Under the guidance of Ms. Rabia Mumtaz, a dedicated Teaching/Research Associate, the students meticulously planned and executed the event, showcasing their commitment to civic engagement and social responsibility. Dr. Munazza Mahmod, Incharge of ELM, commended the students for their enthusiastic participation and emphasized the importance of acknowledging the efforts of all individuals within the campus community.
The highlight of the event was the heartfelt act of presenting recognition badges to the sanitary workers, symbolizing the deep appreciation and respect felt towards them. Through this gesture, the students and faculty members aimed to convey that every role within the institution is valued and recognized.

Seminar on Leadership in Islam: A Guide for Women in the Contemporary World
Students of MS, Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, organized a seminar titled as , Leadership in Islam: A Guide for Women in the Contemporary, under the supervision of Dr. Munazza Mahmood, (Assistant Professor, Dept. of ELM). Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, (Dean Faculty of Education) graced the event as chief guest. The guest speaker, Dr. Faryal Umbreen, (In-charge Dawah Centre for women), eloquently shared her profound wisdom and insights into the topic, leadership in Islam while emphasizing the pivotal role women can play as leaders. Drawing from the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions, she shared insightful and thought-provoking examples of exemplary leadership. She highlighted the crucial roles of women in society according to Islamic teachings. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, also stressed the importance of women’s leadership outlining essential qualities and attributes. Moreover, certificate ceremony was held, honoring the chief guest, guest speaker, and chief organizer with shields and certificates.
Pakistan is home to a large number of ethnicities and cultural groups, which makes for an interesting and diverse national culture. Culture cannot be imposed from outside or learnt in educational institutions. It grows organically through demonstration. To represent the Pakistani culture, students (BS Education sixth semester) of the Department of Educational Leadership and Management enthusiastically arranged an exhibition to display vibrant cultures of Pakistan. Project was supervised by Ms. Saman Noor, (Course Instructor) under their course of Pakistan, culture and society. The event was featured by a variety of elements e.g, regional colorful dresses which reflects the colors of all provinces of Pakistan and presented the Pakistani culture in a beautiful way, the artistic jewelry , artwork and food stalls. It was a well-attended event by the chairpersons, in-charges and faculty members of Faculty of Education and students.
Department of Educational Leadership and Management, FoE, organized a seminar on Communication skills, as effective communication can deepen relations in personal life or professional life. Mr. Tajak Hussain, graced the event as resource person. He highlighted that communication is an essential process for human beings; good communication skills help us to interact, connect and transmit information in various ways. Moreover, he mentioned that purposes of communication skills are manifold and range from sharing knowledge to expressing emotions, establishing relationships, and solving problems. It builds a strong relationship and trust, fostering a positive learning environment. Dr. Shamsa Aziz, (Chairperson, Dept. of Teacher Education), also mentioned the significance of communication skills in respect of building relationships at workplace, establishing and maintaining relationships with peers, teachers and mentor. Dr. Azhar Mehmood (Chairperson, Dept. of ELM), in his vote of thanks, emphasized that good communication skills facilitates learning and understanding among teacher educators and prospective teachers.
Research proposal is a formal document or presentation that outlines a plan, idea, or project and seeks to persuade to effective contribution in knowledge. Keeping in view the significance of planning a research proposal, the Department of Educational Leadership and Management has organized a workshop on writing research proposal to acquaint research scholars with the techniques of effective research proposal writing. Workshop was attended by the research scholars of MS program and faculty members.
Dr. Munazza Mahmood, (Incharge, Department of ELM), graced the workshop as resource person, she clarified the multiple components of research proposal, (building research proposal methodology, utilization of available resources, one-pager, expected outcomes). She mentioned the significance of research proposal as a vital tool that can help scholars to understand, what works and why, and what are the short and long term implications , so right decisions and actions can help to deal with the unexpected by identifying and promotes improvements. Furthermore Ms. Shaista Yasir, (Ph. D) scholar, demonstrated objectives, writing literature review, formatting and citations. At, the end of session certificates were awarded to all the participants for acknowledgment.
An Orientation Session for Visiting Teachers for Semester Spring-2024
Visiting teachers play an important role in achieving the goal of higher education. In each semester, visiting faculty is hired to fulfill the teaching requirements. A group of thirty teachers have been hired for the spring semester. An orientation session for the newly hired visiting teachers was organized by the Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM). Dr. Azhar Mahmood (Chairperson Department of ELM), welcomed the teachers and asked them to focus on quality education through use of best learning practices and appropriate instructional strategies. Furthermore, he highlighted the policy for the conduction of successful examination. Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge, Department of ELM),) highlighted that teachers need to implement systematic criteria to equip students with quality education from real world examples. Ms. Sumaira Batool, (Teaching Research Associate) briefed the teachers about course specification, attendance and assessment criteria of the Department of ELM. Ms. Naila Bashir (Program Coordinator) briefed about the requirements of program coordination office.
Teachers’ Day Celeberations(2023) at the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education (Female Campus)
Throughout the world the Teachers’ Day is celebrated to tribute, honor and appreciate the invaluable contributions of our educators. These dedicated individuals selflessly impart knowledge, shape young minds, and inspire future generations. Following this tradition, the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education (Female Campus) also celebrated this day. Students of BS Education (Semester 5) stunningly embellished the reception areas of Ayesha Block and greeted the teachers. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar (Dean Faculty of Education), Dr. Shamsa Aziz (Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education), Dr. Azhar Mahmood (Chairperson, Department of Leadership and Management) and Dr. Munazza Mahmood, (Incharge, Department of Leadership and Management) inaugurated the event.
Dr. Sumayya Chughtai, (Incharge, Female Campus) and many other teachers from various departments also graced the event and acknowledged the efforts of students. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, appreciated the coordinated efforts of students and opined them with fruitful words “Today, as we celebrate Teachers’ Day, let us take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to the mentors who have shaped our lives. Their dedication, wisdom, and unwavering support have been the guiding light on our educational journey. Happy Teachers’ Day to the true spirits of knowledge and inspiration!” Moreover, he emphasized that the teachers deserve respect as they serve as a wellspring of inspiration for students, fostering their success and their ability to comprehend life. This event saw active participation from faculty members across various departments of the Female Campus.
Orientation Session for Newly Enrolled Students in Faculty of Education
Faculty of Education (Female Campus), International Islamic University Islamabad, organized an orientation session for the Students of BS, B.Ed and Ph.D in the programs of Educational Leadership and Management and English Language Teaching. The session was attended by all faculty members and new students of the Faculty of Education. The orientation session was started with the Recitation of Holy Quran and National Anthem. Ms. Sumaira Batool (focal person activities) imparted the comprehensive instructions regarding rules and regulations of the University with reference to course registration process, attendance policy, grading criteria, scholarship resources and co-curricular activities.

Dr. Azhar Mahmood, (Chairperson, Department of ELM), highly acknowledge the determinations of Prof. Dr. Samina Malik (Rector, IIUI ) Prof. Dr. N. B Jumani (VP A & F), to uplift the faculty. He emphasized on the development of moral values, character building, sense of loyalty and honesty in the students. He further encouraged the students for their maximum participation in community outreach and society improvement.
Dr. Shamsa Aziz, (Chairperson Department of Teacher education) advised students in her welcome address to set high personal and academic standards for optimal growth in new journey. She also encouraged the newly enrolled students to take advantage of their new position in IIUI, as one of the Pakistan’s premier international institutions.

The goal of the orientation session was to acquaint team of newly appointed teachers with the institution’s regulations and academic standards of the Department of ELM. Ms. Sumaira Batool, (Teaching Research Associate) briefed the teachers about exams, attendance and assessment strategies of the Department of ELM. Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge, Department of ELM), explained the requirements and elements of course specification. Dr. Azhar Mahmood (Chairperson Department of ELM), warmly welcomed the teachers and highlighted the role of teacher is to engage the students with specific knowledge, skills and significance of organizing time and activities in implementing the content and plan. Furthermore, he mentioned that visiting teachers are the worth of our Department. Dr. Zarina Akhtar , (Incharge Quality Development and Higher Studies) highlighted that teachers at higher education institutions need implementation of systematic criteria to attain the levels of quality. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar (Dean FoE) greeted the teachers and advised them that university education is not only gaining content knowledge but it should focus to prepare students to be independent, creative and critical in academic career.
