Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, Hosts Seminar on “Teaching as a Profession: Role of NACTE in Accreditation & Licensing”
The Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM) successfully organized an insightful seminar titled “Teaching as a Profession: Role of NACTE in Accreditation & Licensing.” The event was conducted by MS Scholars under the supervision of Dr. Munazza Mahmood, Incharge Programs, Department of ELM. The session commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by the National Anthem.

In welcome remarks, Dr. Azhar Mahmood,In Charge ,Faculty of Education and Chairperson, Department of ELM, warmly greeted the audience and emphasized the importance of professionalism in teaching. He highlighted the pivotal role of the National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE) in setting national standards for teacher education programs and assessing institutions to ensure quality outcomes.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Shamsa Aziz presented an engaging and comprehensive discussion on the professional nature of teaching and the critical role NACTE plays in accreditation and licensing. She outlined NACTE’s vision, mission, organizational structure, and national mandate to accredit teacher education programs across both public and private institutions. Keynote speaker also explained the national standards, templates, evaluation tools, software systems, and the responsibilities of evaluators used to ensure consistent and high-quality teacher preparation programs.

The session included an interactive question-answer segment, during which participants explored the challenges, opportunities, and future directions of teacher education in Pakistan. Faculty members from the Department of Teacher Education also attended the seminar, adding to the academic richness of the event.

 
World Teachers’ Day 2025 Celebrated at Faculty of Education, IIUI
The Faculty of Education (FoE), International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), celebrated World Teachers’ Day 2025 at the Fatima Tuz Zahra Block Auditorium, Female Campus, under the global theme “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession.” The event was jointly organized by the Departments of Educational Leadership & Management (ELM) and Teacher Education (DTE) to honor the tireless dedication of teachers and to inspire future educators.

World Teachers’ Day, observed annually on October 5, commemorates the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which set global standards for teachers’ rights, responsibilities, and professional recognition. The 2025 theme emphasizes the transformative power of collaboration among teachers, leaders, and learners to enhance educational quality and collective well-being.

The program began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Dr. Tabassum Naz, Director, National Curriculum Council (National Curriculum Council), Prof. Dr. Amna Mehmood, Incharge Female Campus, and Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Incharge Programs, Faculty of Education, Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Incharge Incharge Affairs Faculty of Education (Focal Person of the activity) accompanied by faculty members of FoE. This was followed by the recitation of the Holy Quran and the national anthem, setting a respectful and inspiring tone for the day.

In his welcome address, Dr. Azhar Mahmood warmly greeted participants and emphasized that teachers are nation-builders and lifelong mentors who shape both minds and morals. He highlighted that this year’s global theme, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” is especially relevant in today’s world where education must move from individual effort toward collective wisdom. He remarked, “Teachers and students thrive when they feel connected, supported, and part of a larger learning community.”

The event featured student tributes in the form of heartfelt speeches and poetry, expressing gratitude to teachers for their dedication, compassion, and guidance.

In her guest talk, Dr. Tabassum Naz, Director NCC, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, inspired the audience by reflecting on the lifelong impact of great teachers. She emphasized that while we may encounter many teachers in our lives, only a few leave lasting imprints that transform our perspectives. She urged educators to prepare for future learning landscapes shaped by artificial intelligence (AI) and global innovation, stressing that teachers and curriculum together hold the power to turn ordinary classrooms into unforgettable learning experiences.

Prof. Dr. Amna Mehmood, Incharge Female Campus, shared personal reflections on the transformative influence of her own teachers. She beautifully observed that “teaching is not merely a profession, but one of the most powerful means of bringing real change in society.” She reminded the audience that teachers mirror society’s values — and their positivity, patience, and passion shape how future generations learn to live with purpose and grace.

In the vote of thanks, Dr. Alina Raza, Incharge Academic Affairs, Department of Teacher Education, expressed gratitude to all distinguished guests, faculty members, students, and the organizing committee for their contributions in making the event a success.

The event not only honored the contributions of teachers but also motivated IIUI’s future educators to embrace collaboration, innovation, and excellence in their professional journey — reaffirming the Faculty of Education’s commitment to preparing reflective, value-driven, and future-ready teachers.

 
Orientation Session for Visiting Teachers
Orientation session plays a significant role at the start for teachers to create the platform to share academic concerns and thoughts. Keeping in view its significance Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM) organized an orientation session for visiting teachers appointed for semester fall 2025. Session was started with the recitation of Holy Quran Ms. Sumaira Batool, (Teaching/Research Associate) welcome the audience and provided a comprehensive overview of the guidelines related to academic calendar, attendance course specification , mid-term and final-term policies, and support services available form the department to ensure a successful teaching experience. Ms. Naila Bashir (Assitsant Director, Dept. Of ELM), explained about the Campus Management System and Learning Management System in detail. Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge programs, Department of ELM) emphasized on creative pedagogical approaches, importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring academic excellence and providing students with the best possible educational experience. She encouraged the teachers to uphold the department’s academic standards and to serve as role models for students. Dr. Asad Abbad Rizvi, (Incharge Acdemic Affairs, Dept. Of ELM), mentioned about the significance of LMS and in terms of accessibility, efficiency and reducing dependency on learning resources.

Furthermore, Dr. Azhar Mahmood (Chairperson Department of ELM), warmly welcomed the faculty members and expressed appreciation for their valuable contributions to the department’s teaching and learning environment. He emphasized on the importance of maintaining effective communication with the department’s support staff to ensure consistency in smooth academic tasks. The meeting concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session in which faculty members shared their perspectives and suggestions for the Department of ELM. Moreover, Dr. Fatima Maqsood (Assistant Professor) and, Ms Rabia Mumtaz (Teaching/Research Associate) attended the session.

 
Seminar on Dissection of Educational Policies Across Countries
A seminar titles as , “Dissection of Educational Policies Across Countries” was successfully organized by the PhD students (Fall 2024 Batch) of the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Munazza Mahmood, (Incharge programs, Dept.of ELM) The primary objectives of the seminar were, to critically analyze and compare the educational policies of both developing and developed countries, to understand the historical evolution, governance structures, funding mechanisms, curricular priorities and quality assurance arrangements of these policies, and extract actionable insights and transferable lessons for the reform of Pakistan’s education system.

The seminar featured student-led presentations on the educational policies of the following countries: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Sierra Leone, Austria and Canada. Each presentation offered an in-depth review of the country’s current educational strategies, ongoing reforms, and challenges. Faculty members from faculty of Education, offered thoughtful feedback, enriching the academic dialogue and highlighting the seminar’s relevance to ongoing educational discourse.

The seminar served as a valuable platform for scholarly exchange, comparative analysis and critical reflection on global education policies. For Pakistan, the diverse international practices discussed offer meaningful lessons in policy implementation, decentralization, quality assurance and vocational education. The active engagement of participants not only enhanced the depth of discussion but also paved the way for future research and informed policy making aimed at aligning Pakistan’s educational system with global best practices.

Dr. Munazza Mahmood, (Incharge Dept.of ELM) appreciated the efforts of student presenters and shared constructive suggestions for further improvement. She emphasized the need to, align education systems with evolving labor market demands, leverage digital technologies for teaching and learning, ensure equitable access and uphold quality standards and foster innovation in curricula and assessments.

 
Seminar on “From Slides to Success – Effective PowerPoint Skills”
A seminar titled “From Slides to Success: Effective PowerPoint Skills” was organized by the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education. The seminar aimed to; enhance participants’ ability to create professional and impactful presentations, demonstrate best practices in slide design and content organization, develop skills for engaging delivery and effective audience communication, provide practical tools for academic and professional presentation scenarios.

Dr. Asad Abbas Rizvi, ( Incharge Academic Affairs, Dept.of ELM) provided participants with practical guidance on creating professional and engaging presentations. The workshop was focused on various key areas to improve PowerPoint skills among research scholars. He emphasized using consistent fonts, colors and layouts to make presentations more effective. Participants learned how to use white space effectively to avoid cluttered slides while keeping them visually appealing. He also demonstrated how to select high-quality images, charts and info-graphics that support the main message rather than distract from it. Moreover, through hands-on exercises, attendees practiced simplifying complex ideas into easy-to-understand visuals, focusing on key points and removing unnecessary text that can overwhelm an audience.

Dr. Munazza Mahmood, (Incharge Programs, Dept.of ELM), appreciated the efforts of students and mentioned that the professional development initiatives successfully bridged the gap between academic content and effective communication. The seminar underscored the critical role of presentation literacy in knowledge dissemination and established a foundation for continued skill development in visual scholarly communication.

 
Leadership and Management (IPELM-25) Concludes at IIUI
The Department of Educational Leadership and Management at the Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), successfully organized the 1st International Conference on Innovative Pathways in Educational Leadership and Management (IPELM-25) on May 7–8, 2025. Held in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, the conference brought together more than 300 participants, including academics, researchers, and education practitioners from across Pakistan and abroad.
Presenting the conference report, Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Conference Chair and Chairperson of the Department, shared that the two-day event featured five keynote addresses by national and international experts, over 150 paper presentations, and 18 poster sessions. The presentations covered a wide range of themes, including AI in education, teacher leadership, educational policy reform, inclusive education, sustainability, and governance.
A panel discussion on the theme “Reimagining Educational Leadership for Sustainable Development: Innovation, Inclusion, and Resilience in a Global Academic Landscape” brought together senior educationists and thought leaders. Panelists included Prof. Dr. Ayaz Khan (University of Education, Lahore), Prof. Dr. Rizwan Akram Rana (UMT, Lahore), Prof. Dr. Ghulam Behlol (FJWU), Ms. Robeela Bangash (HRDN), and Dr. Samina Khan (ADMAS University, Somaliland). The discussion focused on the future of educational leadership and the role of innovation and resilience in navigating current and future challenges.
Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Secretary NACTE and Guest of Honour, appreciated IIUI’s efforts in providing a much-needed forum to connect research with policy and practice. She stressed the importance of revisiting existing narratives of leadership in order to bring about meaningful transformation in education systems.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman, Vice President (Academics, Administration & Finance) at IIUI, also serving as Guest of Honour, lauded the initiative and congratulated the organizing department for its efforts. Prof. Dr. Amna Mehmood, In-Charge of the Female Campus, extended similar appreciation and highlighted the importance of such academic events.
Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Rector IIUI and Chairman HEC Pakistan, was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony. In his address, he acknowledged the relevance of the conference themes to Pakistan’s educational priorities and emphasized the need for action beyond dialogue.
“Leadership isn’t just about holding a title—it’s about having the vision to inspire and the will to act. True leaders show the way, not by instruction alone, but by example.”
He stressed that teachers, regardless of their formal roles, are leaders who shape lives. Their conduct, decisions, and responses all reflect their leadership. He called for a model of leadership that is proactive, ethical, and responsive to emerging educational demands.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Azhar Mahmood shared key recommendations from the conference, which included the ethical use of AI in education, strengthening adaptive governance, and promoting inclusive teaching practices. Speakers highlighted the need to cultivate teachers as inquiry-driven leaders and to align educational institutions with values of equity, collaboration, and digital readiness. He mentioned that a detailed conference report will be released shortly.
The conference concluded with a formal closing ceremony, during which souvenirs and certificates were presented. The organizing committee, volunteers, keynote speakers, and institutional partners were all acknowledged for their efforts. Dr. Mahmood expressed hope that IPELM will continue as a regular academic event, contributing to ongoing dialogue and action in educational leadership.

 
Department of Educational Leadership & Management hosts Pre-Conference Workshop on Integrating Technology in Academia


Department of Educational Leadership & Management, Faculty of Education International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) successfully organized a Pre-Conference Workshop titled “Integrating Technology in Academia” as part of the upcoming 1st International Conference on Innovative Pathways in Educational Leadership and Management (IPELM-25).

The workshop was held in a blended format at Faisal Masjid Campus, and attended by over 40 participants including faculty members, researchers, postgraduate students, and academic professionals.

The workshop focused on exploring the practical and ethical integration of technology in teaching, learning, and research. It featured interactive demonstrations of digital tools and research applications to support academic writing and referencing.

Prof. Dr. Muazzam Ali Khan Khattak, Director of Science & Technology and ICESCO Chair on Data Analytics & Edge Computing at Quaid-i-Azam University, delivered a thought-provoking session. The session also included discussion by Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Chairperson, Department of Educational Leadership and Management (DELM), and Dr. Muhammad Sher Baz Ali, Assistant Professor (DELM).

A key highlight of the event was the Certificate Distribution Ceremony, led by Dr. Maslawati Mohamad, Chair of the Centre for Learning and Teaching Innovation Studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She applauded the initiative and encouraged participants to embrace innovative digital practices while maintaining academic integrity and purpose-driven teaching.

Participants appreciated the workshop’s practical relevance, timely theme, and hands-on approach, describing it as a valuable learning experience that bridges the gap between traditional pedagogy and the demands of 21st-century education.

The workshop served as a prelude to the main conference sessions of IPELM-25, scheduled for May 7–8, 2025, which will feature local and international scholars sharing research and innovations in educational leadership, management, and technology integration.

Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM) organized an orientation session for visiting teachers appointed for semester spring 2025. The goal of the orientation session was to acquaint team of newly appointed teachers with the institution’s regulations and academic standards of the Department of ELM. Session was started with the recitation of Holy Quran Ms. Sumaira Batool, (Teaching Research Associate) provided a comprehensive overview of the guidelines and support services available to ensure a successful teaching experience. She briefed the teachers about, attendance, assessment strategies, requirements and elements of course specification of the Department of ELM.

Dr. Azhar Mahmood (Chairperson Department of ELM), highlighted that, the role of teacher is to engage the students with specific knowledge, skills, significance of time management and activities in implementing the content plan. Furthermore, he endorsed the valuable contribution of visiting teachers in the Department.

Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge, Department of ELM), highlighted the importance of character building and moral education at higher education level, she mentioned that, by prioritizing character building, institutions of higher education can help students to achieve personal growth, academic success, social responsibility, and long-term benefits that will serve well throughout their lives.

Dr. Syed Abbas Rizvi, (Incharge Academic Affairs, Department of ELM), emphasized on the effective use of CMS (Campus Management System), and stated that it is helpful for the teachers to centralize the classroom activities , attendance maintenance, course content and uploading of assessments. Moreover, Dr. Fatima Maqsood (Assistant Professor, Department of ELM), and Ms. Rabia Mumtaz (Teaching Research Associate) attended the session. The session remained interactive, and visiting teachers had the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on any aspects of the rules.

 
Orientation Session for Newly Enrolled Students in Department of ELM
The Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, organized a comprehensive orientation session for newly enrolled students to familiarize them with the academic and curricular environment of the institution. The event, held at auditorium Fatima-tu-Zahra block female campus, was attended by students of BS in Education (Educational leadership & Management) 1st semester. Orientation session was aimed to familiarize new students with the department’s offerings, academic culture, and the range of resources available to support their new academic journey. It was started with the recitation from Holy Quran.

Dr. Yasmeen Akhtar (Deputy, student advisor) briefed with the details regarding rules and regulations of the University with reference to course registration process, attendance policy, grading criteria, scholarship resources and digital learning platforms.

Ms. Sumaira Batool, Teaching/Research Associate (focal person activities), provided a detailed introduction of Chaiperson, Incharges and faculty members of the Department. Additionally, various academic activities and co-curricular opportunities were also shared. Dr. Munazza Mahmood, (Incharge programs, Department of ELM), and Dr. Fatima Maqsood, (Assistant Professor, Department, of ELM) graced the event with their presence.

The orientation session was concluded with a tour of well-equipped gymnasium, accompanied by Ms. Nadia Mukhtar (Incharge, sports ), she introduce students to the available fitness facilities and promote a culture of health and wellness. She encouraged female students to actively utilize the gymnasium and engage in a healthier lifestyle during their academic journey.

 
Meeting of Board of Studies, held at Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad
The department of Educational Leadership and Management (DELM), Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), successfully held its Board of Studies (BoS) meeting on January 7, 2025, at the Seminar Room, Faculty Block 1, IIUI. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Azhar Mehmood, Incharge Programs, Faculty of Education / Chairperson DELM.

The agenda of the meeting included reviewing and approving the research proposals of PhD scholars DELM. External and Faculty members attended the session to provide their valuable input and ensure the highest standards of academic practices.

Attendees included Dr. Shafqat Ali Janjua, Joint Educational Advisor, Ministry of Education, Islamabad (Ex); Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Secretary, National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE), Pakistan; Dr Hukam Dad Malik, Director, Institute of Education, My University Islamabad; Dr. Shagufta Akhtar, Director QEC, Foundation University Islamabad, and Dr Abdul Rahaman Alajlan, Associate Professor DELM, Dr. Munazza Mehmood, Assistant Professor / Incharge Programs DELM, among faculty members of DELM.

The meeting concluded with actionable recommendations for the improvement of research proposals of PhD Scholars of DELM. Dr. Asad Abbas Rizvi, Incharge Academic Affairs and Secretary BoS, extended his gratitude to all members for their active participation and valuable contributions.
