WORK SHOP ON ENERGY ENGINEERING

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY

International Islamic University Sector H-10, Islamabad

To be held on 20-21 JUNE, 2011

Electrical load shedding in Pakistan has crippled industries and daily life detoriated. Loss to export is $1.3 Billion, industrial loss to economy $4 Billion. Appropriate actions are not being taken; the situation is getting worse as people fight for gas and electricity! Several lobbies work against the construction of cost efficiencies & indigenous projects of Energy and baseless controversies have been created. Pakistan is blessed with abundant energy potentials i.e. 59,000 MW potentials of hydro, 2.9 million MW solar, 346,000MW wind, 185 Billion tons of coal, 150 TCF of gas, 27.5 Billion barrels of oil etc. Analysis of the reasons of energy crises indicates barriers which need to be mitigated to overcome menace of energy crises.

One of the barriers is Technology and Information, Public awareness & education. Strategy is proposed to achieve five E’s e.g. “E” Education, “E” Energy, “E” Employment, “E” Equity and “E” Enterprise. With the help of international experts we have started education, conference and R, D&D for students about Energy Engineering to implement the most important “Es” of education along energy for employment on equity basis for enterprises by establishing linkage with industry.

AIMS

Two day workshop on Energy Engineering will be held 20-21 June, 2011. in the beautiful Capital City of Islamabad, at the International Islamic University, Sector H-10 Islamabad Pakistan. The foreign and Pakistani experts will be invited to deliver their Keynote talks, contributory lectures, and presentations in the workshop. The topics are selected to elaborate on the theme of the workshop on power generation technologies and status about hydro-power, coal, nuclear, fossil fuels, R&D and Industrial linkage etc. In this workshop there are 5 technical sessions and 17 papers. This workshop offers an opportunity for Engineers, Scientists, Professionals, Policymakers, Investors, faculty and students to review reasons of energy crises, remedial measures and recent developments in the energy sector.

OBJECTIVES

Average 33% time of daily electrical load shedding in Pakistan is most serious as it has affected all activities. Industries are crippled, commercial, official activities and daily life is being detoriated! Total loss to Export is $1.3 Billion, value added loss to industry 11%, cost to industrial load shedding to economy $4 Billion. If appropriate actions are not taken immediately; the situation is going to get worse when people will fight for every watt of electricity! The impounding crises are not foreseen and its gravity is not yet properly realized by the decision makers! Politics and several lobbies work against construction of major projects of hydel power and baseless controversies have been created. Pakistan is blessed with abundant renewable energy i.e. 59,000 MW potentials of hydro electricity, 2.9 million MW solar, and 346,000MW wind, 185 billion Tons of Coal. Analysis of the reasons for the slow and no growth of these vital renewable potentials in Pakistan indicate that there are barriers which need to be mitigated to take immediate benefits to overcome menace of load shedding. This workshop will create awareness among the participants specially the students.

OUT COME

The outcome of the topics, lectures, expert discussions, presentations and latest R&D on different energy systems will help public and particularly students to get to get rid of energy crises and power shortages. The experts will help us during the discussions and meetings for possible solutions on our industrial and domestic energy production goals implementation. The young engineers/professionals will be given a chance to participate in the workshop topics. Workshop will provide an opportunity for everyone to come and join us in the day to day discussions, lectures, presentations with their new ideas covering everything from a micro project to a mega project. The Workshop theme covers as many topics as possible, under different fields of electricity/power generation, sustainable, as well as, renewable systems and technologies.
