DR. YUCEL SPEAKS ON IQBAL AND RUMI AT IIUI

IRD-LectureThoughts of Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Maulana Jalal ud din Rumi on Monday were explored at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) in a lecture by Dr. Salih Yucel, Associate Professor, Centre for Islamic Studies and Civilization, Charles Sturt University, Australia .

The lecture titled “’ Rumi and Iqbal: The Marriage of Heart and Mind in Service of Education” was organized by Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) of IIUI at Faisal Masjid campus.

“Both the great thinkers contributed through their prudent thoughts amid crisis time of Muslims” said Dr. Yucel while discussing similarities in works and message of Maulana Rumi and Allama Iqbal . He said that Islam is religion of peace and advocates love for humanity which one observes in the message of Maulana Rumi. He added that Allama Iqbal’s works contain the reflections of Prophet’s (PBUH) seerah. He urged that scholars must read both the great thinkers to explore about intellect and love for peace. He was of the view that education can be given through actions saying that visible example is life of Holy Prophet (PBUH). Talking about unity of Muslims, he said the Iqbal conveyed that Muslims must not be impressed from the concepts of West adding that Muslims have their own philosophy which is based on universality of their religion.

Dr. Yousaf Farooqi, former DG of university’s Shariah Academy also spoke on the occasion and termed Allama Muhammad Iqbal as a great student of Quran. He also lauded IRD for arranging a constructive lecture.

Dr. Sohail Hasan, Director Dawah Academy thanked the speaker and scholars for attending lecture and hailed role of IRD in arranging such activities.

The lecture was also attended by IRD high ups and scholars of university’s institutes, academies and faculties.
