DR. NAJEEBA ARIF, DR. AROOSA KANWAL WIN LAURELS FOR IIUI

The International Islamic University, Islamabad’s (IIUI) faculty members Dr. Najeeba Arif and Dr. Aroosa Kanwal brought fame and pride to the university by winning recognition and prizes at the globally famous Karachi Literature Festival (KLF).Dr. Najreeba Arif KLF

Dr. Najeeba Arif’s (Chairperson of the Urdu Department) work “Ma’aani sey Ziada” bagged the KLF Urdu Fiction/Non-Fiction Prize. Two of her poems were also recited which earned accolades from all present.

In addition, Dr. Aroosa Kanwal (Assistant Professor, Department of English) clinched the KLF-Coca Cola prize, awarded to the best non-fiction work, for her book “Rethinking Identities in Contemporary Pakistani Fiction”, published by Palgrave Macmillan. She received her award in person. This book has discussed the post-colonial discourse, and particularly, the role of Pakistani Fiction in English in negotiating with the global power skein after the fall of the Twin Towers.Dr. Aroosa KLF

Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh have congratulated both the faculty members and termed their success at KLF as a matter of pride for university.

The hosts of the event and veteran experts at KLF praised the two ladies who also stood as indicators of the great potential our university. They recognized the fact that as debutants, their works had managed to earn such glorious awards. .

It is pertinent to say here that in less than ten days, this has been the second forum on which IIUI female faculty members have outdone themselves. Earlier, Dr. Samina Malik had bagged the ‘Best University Teacher’ Award from the HEC.
