DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY IIUI ORGANIZES SYMPOSIUM ON MENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION

 Rehmat Foundation, Michigan, United States of America (USA) and Department of Psychology (Female Campus), Faculty of Social Sciences, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a symposium on Mental Health Education at the Auditorium of Hazrat Fatima Block, Female Campus-IIUI on Monday.

This symposium was arranged to raise the awareness of mental health among all segments of the society especially among youth. By joining hands with the Rehmat Foundation Psychology Department aims to hold a series of seminars, workshops and roundtable discussions on mental health issues in large. During the symposium, speakers of the seminar opined that mental health is as important as physical health, although the mind and body are often viewed as being separate, mental and physical health both are vital for any individual. They opined that following the universal slogan that there is no health without mental health as good mental health can positively affect physical health.

Dr. Ghulam Qadir, Founder of Rehmat Foundation Michigan, USA, Dr. Huda Zenati, Psychotherapist / Co-founder of Rehmat Foundation, Dr. Saba Syed, MD, Member of Rehmat Foundation, Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, IIUI, Chairperson / Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, Dr. Nzaia Iqbal, Dr. Mazhar Iqbal, Chairman Department of Psychology (Male), senior faculty members and a large number of students from the department attended the seminar.

Addressing the seminar Dr. Ghulam Qadir briefed the IIUI students about different mental health issues and highlighted his research in USA and Pakistan. He elaborated strategies that can improve their mental health and way of living. On this occasion, Dr. Qadir also highlighted the mission of the Rehmat Foundation to enhance the quality of life of individuals and communities by focusing on meeting both their basic and higher needs.

Dr. Huda Zenati in her comprehensive presentation shared conclusions of her research conducted in the USA and other areas across the globe. Dr. Huda said that mental health problems are a major cause of psychological, social, and emotional well-being. She gave various examples of different age groups of poor mental health. Dr. Huda shared various solutions to improve mental health of individuals and shared how to cope with stress issues at domestic and social levels.

Dr. Saba Syed, member Rehmat Foundation, Clinical professor of Psychiatry. She is a certified in general and consultation / Liaison Psychiatry by American Board of Psychiatry, also shared her research findings in detail and demographic survey reports about mentally affected individuals of different age groups in USA and some specific areas in Pakistan.

Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Dean Social Sciences, IIUI also expressed the importance of mental health education and said that by joining hands with Rehmat Foundation IIUI will provide a platform for students by conducting a series of seminars, workshops and roundtable discussions on mental health education.

At the end of the seminar Dr. Nazia Iqbal, Chairperson Department of Psychology shared her views regarding the seminar and thanked Founders of Rehmat Foundation for joining hands to enhance quality education in educational institutions of Pakistan.
