DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE LAUNCHES TREE PLANTATION & CARE CAMPAIGN

Spring tree plantation & care campaign organized by Department of Environmental Science (DES) commenced here at the new campus of the university which was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Acting President IIU.

In the campaign, initially, around 500 tree saplings have been planted on the first day. As many as 5000 tree saplings have also been received by the department and placed at the IIU nursery. The students of DES accompanied by the volunteers of other departments will follow to plant new selected tree seedlings and involve in the Tree care to look after already existing trees on the campus. They will take the responsibility of the trees around their respective blocks. In this respect, an Environment Volunteers Society of the students of Environmental Science has already been established initially and will be extended to the whole campus.

On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Arshad Zia, Dean, FBAS, Dr. Muhammad Ibrar Shinwari, Chairman, DES and Mr. Ibrahim Khan, Project Director, Green Pakistan Program. Dr. Rukhsana Tariq, Acting Chairperson, (Female) were also present.

Dr. Bashir appreciated efforts of the Department of Environmental Science for planingt indigenous fruit trees, flowering trees and other plants of medicinal and economic value.  Dr. Muhammad Ibrar Shinwari has explained in the event that around Five thousand and five hundred 55oo tree saplings of Pinus (Chir), Plantenus (Chinar), Melia (Drak) and Dalbergia (Sheesham, sissoo) have been arranged in collaboration with Green Pakistan Program for this campaign.
