DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH ORGANIZES FACULTY TRAINING WORKSHOP

Department of English (Male), Faculty of Languages and Literature, organized a one-day faculty training workshop for the faculty members of the departments of English, Urdu, and Persian.

The aim of the workshop was to update teachers’ knowledge of pedagogical practices and promote effective teaching. All the faculty members (regular as well as visiting) of all the departments of the Faculty of Languages and Literature participated in the workshop.

In this series of workshops organized by , total six workshops were conducted. The first workshop was conducted by Prof. Dr. Ayaz Afsar, Dean, Faculty of Languages and Literature on Course Planning in which he covered all aspects of Course Planning. The second workshop was given by Dr. Muhammad Sheeraz, Incharge, Department of English and Mr. Farrukh Nadeem, Lecturer, Department of English, on Learning Material Development. Dr. Muhammad Sheeraz explained with examples what Teaching/Learning material is and as to how to develop it. Mr. Farrukh Nadeem talked about material development for literature classes. Mr. Arshad Mehmood Raja, Assistant Professor, Department of English, and Mr. Muhammad Nadeem, Lecturer, Department of English were the resource person for the session on Feedback for Professional Development. Mr. Arshad Mehmood Raja gave a detailed presentation on the importance and mechanics of feedback for the professional development of teachers. Mr. Nadeem shared his experiences of teaching language in a multicultural classroom and related that to the topic of the workshop. The fourth workshop was conducted by Mr. Rizwan Aftab, Lecturer, Department of English, and Mr. Mahmood ul Hassan, Lecturer, Department of English, on Classroom Management. Mr. Mahmood ul Hassan gave a talk on Classroom Management to share modern trends and techniques of Classroom Management while Mr. Rizwan Aftab conducted an activity based on various scenarios of Classroom Management. The fifth workshop (after the lunch) was conducted by Dr. Akhtar Aziz, Assistant Professor, Department of English, and Mr. Faisal Rasheed Shaikh, Assistant Professor, Department of English, on assessment. Mr. Faisal Rasheed Shaikh gave a rather general talk on Assessment covering all the various aspect of Assessment of learners in a university setting. Dr. Akhtar Aziz presented his Rubric of Assessment for the Students of the Department of English that he has been working on. He said that adopting such rubric would not only help in bringing fairness in the assessment of students in the department, but it will also foster better learning culture.

In his concluding remarks Prof. Dr. Ayaz Afsar, Dean FLL, while appreciating the effort of all the resource persons for taking out time to prepare and give workshop on their respective modules, emphasized that such workshops were essential for the faculty development as well as improving the quality of instruction. Dr. Muhammad Sheeraz, Incharge, Department of English, in his vote of thanks, expressed his gratitude to all the resource persons as well as the participants of the workshop. At the end the resource persons as well as the participants were presented certificates by the dean and Incharge, Department of English.
