Chinese Companies Explore Collaboration with CIRBS for Medical Testing Kits and APIs Production

A high-profile delegation from leading Chinese pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies visited the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences (CIRBS) at International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), following the initiative of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Riaz. The visit aimed to explore potential collaborations in establishing advanced medical diagnostic testing kits and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) production facilities in Pakistan.

The delegation was highly impressed by the state-of-the-art infrastructure, technical expertise, and research capabilities available at CIRBS. Discussions focused on joint ventures for local manufacturing of high-quality, cost-effective medical testing kits and APIs to enhance Pakistan’s healthcare sector and reduce dependency on imports.

During their visit, the Chinese team also held a meeting with Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Rector of International Islamic University, Islamabad, and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, President of the university. President IIU expressed strong support for the proposed collaboration, emphasizing its potential to boost scientific research, industrial linkages, and healthcare innovation in the region.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Riaz, who facilitated the engagement, stated, “This partnership will not only strengthen Pakistan’s biomedical industry but also create opportunities for technology transfer, skill development, and employment in the pharmaceutical sector.”

The visiting delegation showed keen interest in moving forward with formal agreements, marking a significant step toward a long-term Sino-Pak collaboration in biomedical sciences. Further technical and financial deliberations are expected to take place in the coming months.
