Bioinformatics Department Students Excel in Competitions and Creative Activities

The Bioinformatics Department, Female Campus, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), continued to demonstrate strong academic, research, and creative performance through its participation in multiple competitions and student-led activities. These engagements reflect the university’s focus on encouraging innovation, teamwork, and meaningful student involvement.

In a significant achievement at the Visio Spark 2025 event, students Maria and Khola secured second position in the Idea Competition for their project titled Smart Bag for Fishing. Their participation was supervised by project focal person Ms. Rimsha from the Faculty of Bioinformatics. The leadership of Dr. Attiya Kanwal, In-Charge Department of Bioinformatics, played a key role in motivating students to participate confidently and perform with dedication. With strong student participation, the department also achieved the overall second position among competing institutions.

The department also organized a Bake and Paint Fest at the Female Campus, offering students a vibrant platform to display their creativity in baking and painting. The activity was supervised by Dr. Attiya Kanwal with coordination support from Ms. Rimsha Yousaf. The session was chaired by Ms. Tahiria Noor Fatima. The judging panel included Dr. Salma from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology and Ms. Tanzeel Babary from the Faculty of Social Sciences. The presence of Dr. Rukhsana, In-charge DSA, added value to the event as she interacted with students, appreciated their efforts, and distributed certificates among the position holders. The fest concluded with student interaction and group photographs.

In another notable success, students of the Bioinformatics Department secured the second position at the DataFest competition. The project, jointly completed by Arshia and Aliza from the BIF22 batch in collaboration with Mr. Aryan from CUI, received appreciation for its quality presentation. The project was supervised by focal person Ms. Fatima Iqbal. The department also had three additional projects shortlisted, highlighting the strong research abilities, analytical skills, and creativity of its students.

These achievements reflect the dedication of the Bioinformatics Department and the support of the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology in promoting academic excellence and student development at IIUI.
