The first meeting of the Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) for the year 2026 at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).
The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President (Research & Enterprise).
The meeting reviewed a comprehensive agenda covering confirmation of previous minutes, academic reporting, and consideration of research proposals from multiple faculties, reflecting the University’s continued commitment to academic quality, research governance, and transparent review mechanisms.
A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of an annual report on BASR proceedings for the year 2025, which was placed before the Board for information and record. According to the report, a total of 419 agenda items were processed during 2025 through twelve BASR meetings.
This included 293 PhD synopses and 126 reporting items. This reflects sustained academic activity and a growing research culture across the University. The report further shared details of the Standing Committee for Time Barred Cases (STBC), which convened five meetings in 2025 and processed 29 cases, demonstrating IIUI’s continued efforts to provide due academic pathways for time-barred scholars through structured institutional mechanisms.
In addition, the Board was informed that 67 further PhD synopsis agenda items, already received by the Directorate of Graduate Studies (DGS) up to 5 January 2026, will be placed before upcoming BASR meetings for deliberation.
Alongside the institutional report, the Board reviewed and considered a large number of PhD research proposals from the Faculties of Management Sciences, Usuluddin (Islamic Studies), Languages and Literature, Engineering and Technology, Sciences, and Computing & Engineering Technology—reflecting IIUI’s diverse and growing postgraduate research landscape.
The meeting reaffirmed BASR’s central role in strengthening research standards, streamlining academic governance, and supporting scholars through transparent and structured review processes.
