LIU 1International Islamic university Islamabad (IIUI) and Lahore Islamic University Lahore (LIUL) discussed mutual cooperation in a meeting which was chaired by the IIUI President Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh.

During the fourth meeting at Lahore, horizons of mutual cooperation between both the universities were discussed.

On the occasion, high level officials of the LIUL apprised the chair about comprehensive report of the university.

Dr. Draiweesh acknowledged and appreciated the top management of the LIUL for its overall progress and achievements. The President IIUI invited the officials of LIUL to participate in a seminar on Judiciary in Islam to be held at IIUI in coming days, while he also invited LIUL to join Afro-Asian forum which would be lead by IIUI. Dr. Draiweesh also reiterated his resolve to continue support for LIUL

Oathoath taking ceremony of newly elected office bearers of Academic Staff Association (ASA) for session 2016 – 17 was held at news campus of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).

President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh was the chief guest of the ceremony which was attended by the Academia from male and female faculties of the varsity.

On the occasion, President IIUI took oath from the newly elected panel which included Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal (President), Dr. Faiz Ur Rahim (V.P), Dr. Amna Mehmood (V.P), Shahzad Ashraf Chaudhry (General Secretary), Ahsan Bashir (Joint Secretary), Mrs. Taima Sabeeha (Joint Secretary female), Engr. Sakhi Jan Khalil (Information Secretary), Dr. Rukhsana Tariq (Information Secretary female) and Zaheer Ud Din Behram (Finance Secretary).

In his speech, President IIUI thanked all ex. ASA office bearers specially President Dr. Zafar Iqbal for his continuous and sincere efforts for the development of the faculty and university’s academic progress. He also urged the faculty members to take forward the mission of university and work hard day and night to bring the university in front line amongst the international community. He emphasized on improvement of individual’s performance to fill the research gap and deliver to the society. Dr. Al-Draiweesh offered his full support and resources to academia.

In his speech, Dr. Zafar Iqbal, thanked the house for cooperation and support. He also thanked President IIU and other officials for taking interest and solving the faculty issues. He also highlighted the current issues and requested the chief guest to address the problems on priority basis.

During the ceremony, newly elected General Secretary ASA Mr. Shahzad Ashraf Chaudhry put forth the issues to be addressed on priority in upcoming session.

Shields were presented to all Ex. Presidents and committee members of session 2015-16 for their achievements.  At the end Dr. Zafar Iqbal presented a shield to President IIUI and thanked all the guests for sparing time.

Earlier, Ex. General Secretary ASA Husnain Naqvi welcomed all guests and highlighted the achievements of ASA during 2015-16.

Meanwhile, Faitha was offered for late eminent scholar and Executive Director of varsity’s Iqbal Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed.

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh prayed for eternal peace for departed soul of Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed that May Allah Almighty shower His countless blessings on him. President IIUI, admire his contribution and said that he always be remembered for his services to Muslim ummah.

image 1Department of Mechanical engineering (DME), Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) of the university arranged a workshop on “Applications of Computational Mechanics for Real World Problem Solving”.

The resource person of the Workshop was Dr. Muhammad Abid who is Director Interdisciplinary Research Center and Chairman Mechanical Engineering, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Wah Cantt, Pakistan.

Faculty members, MS-PhD scholars and BS students attended the session in which Dr Abid shared his valuable knowledge & ideas and elaborated his ongoing research on the said subject. He motivated the audience to pursue their research especially in the field of computational mechanics. Dr. Abid also emphasized how academia-industry linkage can benefit the progress of the country.

The workshop covered vital topics such as Modeling and simulation of pressurized systems, Welding simulations for pipe flange joints, Optimization of bolted joints for optimized performance, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding simulation for weld pool optimization, Simulation and optimization of Renewable Energy Systems, Water and sediment flow simulations through Tunnels and Tarbela Reservoir, Simulation of Diesel Engines, Spine modeling and analysis.

At the end, a shield was presented to Dr Abid by Chairman Department of Mechanical Engineering Dr Saeed Badshah.

IMG_20160404_110420Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed (Late) was paid rich tribute to his determined and untiring efforts and contributions for research and education in Pakistan in a condolence reference which was held by Iqbal International Institute of Research and Dialogue (IIUI), International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).IMG_20160404_112056

Dr. Mumtaz was heading IRD as Executive Director breathed his last after protracted illness at the age 76. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed brought teaching experience and international exposure of more than three decades and joined IIUI in 2007 and served university as Vice President, President and Executive Director IRD.

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President IIUI, Dr. Muhammad Munir VicePresident Higher Studies & Research (HSR), Dr. Sohail Hassan Director Dawah Academy, Dr. Talib Hussain Sial Director Programs IRD including large number of academicians, administrative officers, staff and students joined the reference. While sharing his reflections Dr. Al-Draiweesh expressed his extreme sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad said that he was a great thinker and intellectual.

“The space being created by Dr. Mumtaz’s death would not be engulfed as this is not only loss of Pakistan but also the loss of academic circles around the world” President IIUI further added. Dr. Al-Draiweesh also said that Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad set comprehensive guidelines for the university to determine the cause of progress; since I’ve joined university Dr. Mumtaz was always very kind that he extended his honest consultation and opinion in every case with high satisfaction. Dr. Al-Draiweesh was of the view that Dr. Mumtaz was a champion of interfaith and inter-sect harmony and performed valuable services on the national and international level for the harmonization, peace and prosperity of human being that will always be remembered.

Dr. Zafar Ishaq Ansari said that Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad had a great institution in itself and termed him a man of knowledge having strong analytical power nurtured number of deep rooted plants in shape of young scholars and researchers.  He also mentioned his last meeting with Dr. Mumtaz in a hospital of his last days carrying a book interacted with view that ” don’t you think that few questions on Western thoughts and philosophy that remains to be worked on”. DSC_2271Dr Ansari said that he was quintessential personality that his thoughts and works extremely hard to describe in words.

Dr. Sohail Hassan said in his speech that Dr Mumtaz was a great academician and patriot that he had dedicated association with Pakistan even to engaged in the pursuit of learning and teaching  in USA for many years. “Dr. Mumtaz was a rich in faith and had an unwavering ideological strength that he comes up with critical evaluation and response on every published book in the West on Islam” Dr. Sohail Hassan added. Dr. Talib Hussain paid high tribute to the services and contributions of Dr. Mumtaz at IRD and shared some of memories. He termed him a great human being, a real torch bearer to young scholars who is always encouraging.

During the meeting at the residence of the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia, issues of mutual interest and matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation were discussed. Dr Abdullah Mohammad Al-Sheikh hailed IIUI for its role in the field of education and assured of maximum support to the university in achievements of its goals.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh apprised him about the goals, objectives and future vision of the university, while he also briefed about the challenges being faced by IIUI. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that IIUI is keen to expand its educational ties with all the universities of Muslim world. He also thanked KSA government for support and cooperation with IIUI.

The ceremony was held at the residence of Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan, Abdullah Marzouk Al Zahrani.

It was attended by Ambassador Abdullah Marzouk Al Zahrani, diplomats of Saudi Embassy and other renowned personalities.

The Saudi Envoy lauded the services of Dr. Haza Al-Ghamdi and said that he has played pivotal role in strengthening the bilateral ties between Pakistan and KSA.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh appreciated the service of Dr. Haza and said that he is true knowledge lover who always remained available for cooperation with IIUI. He said that Dr. Haza has been an omen of sincerity, loyalty and dedication.  The IIUI President also presented souvenirs of the university and his recent book to Dr. Haza.

The IIUI President said that Dr. Mumtaz will always be remembered for his vision and services he provided to the university. “While expressing deep grief on my behalf I also convey the sympathies and condolences on behalf of the whole university as this sad demise has saddened our hearts” he said.

IMG_20160401_135040The funeral prayer in absentia of Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed was offered in Faisal Masjid, old campus of International Islamic University Islamabad after Jumma prayer.

He as Executive Director was heading Iqbal International Institute of Research and Dialogue IIUI. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President of the university led funeral prayer which was joined by Dr. Masoom Yasinzai Rector IIUI, Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan Vice President Academics, high officials and large number of academicians, administrative officers, staff and students offered funeral prayers in absentia.

Dr. Mumtaz breathed his last two days before after protracted illness. Dr. Mumtaz was a man of dedication that even the last day he attended the office as he had been severely suffering. They participants of funeral prayer expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed.

In the message by university authority has said IIUI stands with family of Dr. Mumtaz in this hour of grief and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to members of the bereaved family. Participants of funeral prayer prayed for eternal peace of departed soul and that may Allah Almighty bless the deceased with countless blessings in the life hereafter.

Earlier, Office of the Director Female Campus IIUI organized Quran Khawani (Quran Recitation) and Dua for the departed soul. In this regards, the reference will be held on Monday at Allama Iqbal Auditorium Faisal Masjid campus which would be attended by renowned scholars, academicians and notable personalities.

downloadDr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Executive Director, Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue (IRD), International Islamic Islamabad passed away previous night. He was 76 years, suffering from serious disease. His funeral prayer was offered at his native village Gujar Khan. He was renowned social scientist, scholar and top ranked academician of Pakistan.

Dr. Mumtaz associated with the IIUI since 2007 on key positions and served as Vice President, President IIUI and presently heading IRD as Executive Director. His funeral prayer was attended by Dr. Masoom Yasinzai Rector IIUI, Dr. Anees Ahmed Vice Chancellor Ripha International University, Mr. Sajaad Mir, Raja Khalid Mahmood DG IIUI, large number of renowned scholars, journalists, academicians, social and political circle including officers and top officials of the university.

Dr. Masoom expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Dr. Mumtaz and said this is irreparable loss which never be healed up. Rector IIUI further said university has been deprived form great academician and his contributions and directions for the progress will always be source of guidance and lines of progress. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President IIUI also expressed his sadden incident, the death of Dr. Mumtaz .

He said the gulf of Dr. Mumtaz could not be bridged ever as he was a great scholar and man of letters. President IIUI said whole Pakistani academic community are extremely depressed over this loss. Dr. Mumtaz was a Professor of Political Science at Hampton University, VA, USA.

Dr. Mumtaz published nine books and numerous journal articles, chapters in edited volumes, and encyclopedia articles on politics of contemporary Islamic movements, political sociology of religious groups, and political developments in South Asia and the Middle East. He served as: member of “Islam and Social Change Project” of the University of Chicago; Research Fellow at the Brookings Institution, Washington, D.C; Senior Fulbright Fellow in Bangladesh and Pakistan; Fellow of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Sudan, Pakistan and Malaysia; American Institute of Bangladesh Studies Fellow; American Institute of Pakistan Studies Fellow; member of the “Fundamentalism Project” of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences/University of Chicago; and Senior Consultant for the “Muslims in American Public Square” Project of Georgetown University.

He was currently President of the South Asian Muslim Studies Association (SAMSA), an affiliate of the Association of Asian Studies (AAS) and Vice-President of Centre for Islam and Public Policy (CIPP), Washington, D.C. Prior to joining Hampton University in 1990, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad taught at Columbia College and Chicago State University.

Iqbal International Institute of Research & Dialogue, International Islamic 4444444444University, Islamabad held a cultural gathering on “ IIU, its History, Development and Academic & Cultural Impact” with Justice (R) Khalil ur Rehman, Former Rector IIUI, where he shared his memorable experiences of his tenure as Rector IIUI.

The evening was hosted by Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI, and those who attended the programme included Dr. Muhammad Munir, Vice President Higher Studies and Research (HSR), Deans, Directors, Foreign faculty members and high officials of the university. Justice Khalil ur Rehman discussed the core objectives, developmental phases and out-reach of IIUI since the foundation of the university.

He further expressed his feelings and reflections of the time when IIU was expanding its wings and construction of its new campus was under-going. Justice Khalil also threw light on hardships, obstacles and hindrances which were faced by IIUI during that time.

While talking about the recognition and acknowledgement of IIUI in the world, he mentioned the honorary degrees which were conferred upon Mr. Mahathir Muhammad Former Prime Minister Malaysia, Prince Hasan bin Talal of Jordan and Mr. Nelson Mandela, Former President of South Africa in 2005. He also talked about the visits of Prime Minister of Singapore, Archbishop of Canterbury and High level Delegation of Thai Army to IIUI. He emphasized that this was the evidences of high esteem that IIUI enjoyed in the world.

Former Rector II455555555555555U expressed his hope that university is on right track progressing and he vowed to contribute his utmost for the development of the university. Justice Khalil said that the university has made immense contribution towards the human resource development not only for Pakistan but for the world at large. IIUI is alsothe symbol of hopes and aspirations of Muslim Ummah, added Justice Khalil.

Earlier, Dr. Al-Draiweesh thanked the former Rector IIUI for sparing his precious time and said that the views expressed by Justice Khalil ur Rehman show us a way forward for the development of IIUI. He was of the view that under the guidance of well-wishers of IIUI like Justice Khalil ur Rehman, the university will surely find new avenues of progress. At the end, the university souvenir was presented by Dr. Al-Draiweesh President IIUI to Justice Khalil ur Rehman Khan.
