Leadership and Management (IPELM-25) Concludes at IIUI
The Department of Educational Leadership and Management at the Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), successfully organized the 1st International Conference on Innovative Pathways in Educational Leadership and Management (IPELM-25) on May 7–8, 2025. Held in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, the conference brought together more than 300 participants, including academics, researchers, and education practitioners from across Pakistan and abroad.
Presenting the conference report, Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Conference Chair and Chairperson of the Department, shared that the two-day event featured five keynote addresses by national and international experts, over 150 paper presentations, and 18 poster sessions. The presentations covered a wide range of themes, including AI in education, teacher leadership, educational policy reform, inclusive education, sustainability, and governance.
A panel discussion on the theme “Reimagining Educational Leadership for Sustainable Development: Innovation, Inclusion, and Resilience in a Global Academic Landscape” brought together senior educationists and thought leaders. Panelists included Prof. Dr. Ayaz Khan (University of Education, Lahore), Prof. Dr. Rizwan Akram Rana (UMT, Lahore), Prof. Dr. Ghulam Behlol (FJWU), Ms. Robeela Bangash (HRDN), and Dr. Samina Khan (ADMAS University, Somaliland). The discussion focused on the future of educational leadership and the role of innovation and resilience in navigating current and future challenges.
Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Secretary NACTE and Guest of Honour, appreciated IIUI’s efforts in providing a much-needed forum to connect research with policy and practice. She stressed the importance of revisiting existing narratives of leadership in order to bring about meaningful transformation in education systems.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman, Vice President (Academics, Administration & Finance) at IIUI, also serving as Guest of Honour, lauded the initiative and congratulated the organizing department for its efforts. Prof. Dr. Amna Mehmood, In-Charge of the Female Campus, extended similar appreciation and highlighted the importance of such academic events.
Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Rector IIUI and Chairman HEC Pakistan, was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony. In his address, he acknowledged the relevance of the conference themes to Pakistan’s educational priorities and emphasized the need for action beyond dialogue.
“Leadership isn’t just about holding a title—it’s about having the vision to inspire and the will to act. True leaders show the way, not by instruction alone, but by example.”
He stressed that teachers, regardless of their formal roles, are leaders who shape lives. Their conduct, decisions, and responses all reflect their leadership. He called for a model of leadership that is proactive, ethical, and responsive to emerging educational demands.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Azhar Mahmood shared key recommendations from the conference, which included the ethical use of AI in education, strengthening adaptive governance, and promoting inclusive teaching practices. Speakers highlighted the need to cultivate teachers as inquiry-driven leaders and to align educational institutions with values of equity, collaboration, and digital readiness. The conference emphasized that equity-centered and tech-informed leadership will be critical in meeting both national education goals and global SDG commitments. Dr. Mahmood also acknowledged the valuable contributions of early-career scholars and reiterated IIUI’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary and innovative research in education. He mentioned that a detailed conference report will be released shortly.
The conference concluded with a formal closing ceremony, during which souvenirs and certificates were presented. The organizing committee, volunteers, keynote speakers, and institutional partners were all acknowledged for their efforts. Dr. Mahmood expressed hope that IPELM will continue as a regular academic event, contributing to ongoing dialogue and action in educational leadership.

 
Department of Educational Leadership & Management hosts Pre-Conference Workshop on Integrating Technology in Academia


Department of Educational Leadership & Management, Faculty of Education International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) successfully organized a Pre-Conference Workshop titled “Integrating Technology in Academia” as part of the upcoming 1st International Conference on Innovative Pathways in Educational Leadership and Management (IPELM-25).

The workshop was held in a blended format at Faisal Masjid Campus, and attended by over 40 participants including faculty members, researchers, postgraduate students, and academic professionals.

The workshop focused on exploring the practical and ethical integration of technology in teaching, learning, and research. It featured interactive demonstrations of digital tools and research applications to support academic writing and referencing.

Prof. Dr. Muazzam Ali Khan Khattak, Director of Science & Technology and ICESCO Chair on Data Analytics & Edge Computing at Quaid-i-Azam University, delivered a thought-provoking session. The session also included discussion by Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Chairperson, Department of Educational Leadership and Management (DELM), and Dr. Muhammad Sher Baz Ali, Assistant Professor (DELM).

A key highlight of the event was the Certificate Distribution Ceremony, led by Dr. Maslawati Mohamad, Chair of the Centre for Learning and Teaching Innovation Studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She applauded the initiative and encouraged participants to embrace innovative digital practices while maintaining academic integrity and purpose-driven teaching.

Participants appreciated the workshop’s practical relevance, timely theme, and hands-on approach, describing it as a valuable learning experience that bridges the gap between traditional pedagogy and the demands of 21st-century education.

The workshop served as a prelude to the main conference sessions of IPELM-25, scheduled for May 7–8, 2025, which will feature local and international scholars sharing research and innovations in educational leadership, management, and technology integration.

 
Postdoc Research Fellowship Workshop 2024-2025: A Convergence of Expertise, Research and Innovation at Faculty of Education IIUI

The Faculty of Education, International Islamic University, Islamabad, marked a significant milestone in its commitment to advancing research and academic excellence with the recently held Postdoc Research Fellowship Workshop for the 2024-2025 batch. Spanning five days—from February 17 to 21, 2025—this second workshop brought together a dynamic blend of eminent scholars, policymakers, and research practitioners, all converging to foster an environment of collaborative learning and rigorous academic discourse.

Day 1 opened with a warm welcome from Dr. Azhar Mahmood Chairperson of the Department of Educational Leadership and Management and Incharge Programs Faculty of Education and Dr. Fouzia Ajmal Incharge Academic Affairs Faculty of Education who not only inaugurated the workshop. The morning session set the tone for the week, emphasizing both the procedural and ethical frameworks crucial for research excellence.

The session by Mr. Sulaiman Ahmad, Director NAHE HEC, addressed the participants with a detailed overview of HEC policies. His session covered critical themes including the policy for students with disabilities, the drug and tobacco abuse policy, and the anti-harassment policy—ensuring that all participants are well-versed in national guidelines shaping academic environments.

Later, Dr. Azhar Mahmood conducted an in-depth session on “Research Supervision” providing essential strategies and insights on how to effectively mentor and manage research projects.

On Day 2 the focus shifted towards refining academic writing skills and delving into the intricacies of literature reviews. Prof. Dr. Fauzia Janjua, Dean Faculty of Languages and Literature, IIUI, spearheaded the session on Academic Writing, emphasizing the importance of constructing a compelling and comprehensive literature review—a fundamental component of any research writing focusing on the coherence and cohesion. She emphasized the connections in Literature Review.

The afternoon session was dedicated to the proposal presentations, where Dr. Asad Abbas Rizvi , Assistant Professor/Incharge Academic Affairs Department of Educational Leadership and Management oversaw the presentation of proposals numbered setting a benchmark for clarity and connectivity in research proposals.

On Day 3 In a session helmed by Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, DG IRI IIUI, participants continued to engage in rigorous discussion, underscoring the importance of taking benefit of postdoctoral experience beyond academics and research also.

Further engagement with the proposal presentations was done where Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Associate Professor/Chairperson Department of Teacher Education led the session for proposals offering constructive feedback aimed at refining research methodologies.

The fourth day started with the essential skills of data management. Dr. Abdul Rahman Saad Alajlan, Associate Professor Department of Educational Leadership and Management delivered a comprehensive session on “Data Preparation, Management, and Analysis,” equipping postdoctoral fellows with the necessary tools and techniques to handle complex data sets effectively.

The session continued with proposal presentations under the guidance of Dr. Munazza Mahmood, Assistant Professor/Incharge Programs Department of Educational Leadership and Management further fostering an environment of constructive critique and scholarly growth.

On Day 5 Dr. Shahid Soroya, DG Pakistan Institute of Education, addressed the critical theme of Academic Integrity, reinforcing the values of honesty, transparency, and ethical scholarship.

The workshop concluded on February 21, 2025, with sessions that emphasized ethical practices and outlined future directions. In the closing segment, Dr. Azhar Mahmood synthesized the workshop’s insights and achievements, mapping out the way forward and encouraging continued collaboration among the participants. Key take aways were discussed and further tasks were discussed.

As postdoctoral fellows move forward, the skills and insights gained during these intensive sessions would make a lasting impact on their scholarly contributions and the broader academic community.

 
17th Board of Faculty Meeting, Faculty of Education, Held at IIUI

The Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), convened the 17th Board of Faculty (BoF) Meeting on February 10, 2025, at the Council Hall, Admin Block, IIUI. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Shuja Syed, Dean, Faculty of Education/President IIUI, and brought together esteemed experts to deliberate on key academic and administrative matters.

Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Incharge Programs FoE briefed about the agenda items. The agenda included the confirmation and implementation report of the 16th BoF Meeting, approval of the Scheme of Studies for B.Ed 1.5 (Distance Education Mode), and evaluation of research proposals from MS Education scholars (14 female and 4 male) from the Department of Teacher Education and Department of Educational Leadership and Management. Additionally, discussions were held on finalizing a list of national and international experts to enhance academic collaboration and research quality.

Prominent experts including Prof. Dr. Tanveer Uz Zaman, Former Dean of Education, Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad; Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Hussain (Rtd), Institute of Education and Research, Kohat University of Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Imran Yousuf, Dean Fcaulty of Social Sciences , PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi; and Dr. Wajeeha Shahid, Associate Professor, Department of Educational Sciences, National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad contributed to the discussions. Their valuable insights aimed at strengthening research, academic programs, and policy development within the Faculty of Education.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to enhancing academic excellence, promoting quality research, and furthering the faculty’s strategic goals in alignment with IIUI’s vision for educational innovation.

 
Meeting of 16th Board of Faculty, Faculty of Education Meeting Held at IIUI

The Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) convened the 16th Board of Faculty Meeting on January 3, 2025. The meeting, chaired by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Shuja Syed, Dean, Faculty of Education/President IIUI, brought together distinguished faculty members and academic leaders to discuss key research and administrative matters.

Key agenda items included confirmation and implementation of Minutes of the 15th Board of Faculty Meeting, evaluation of Research Proposals from MS (Male and Female) scholars in the Department of Educational Leadership and Management and Change of Supervisors for Ph.D. and MS scholars.

Prominent faculty members and experts including Prof. Dr. Tanveer Uz Zaman, Former Dean of Education, Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Hussain (Rtd), Professor, Institute of Education and Research, Kohat University of Science and Technology Kohat, Prof. Dr. Imran Yousuf, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi and Dr. Wajeeha Shahid, Associate Professor, Department of Educational Sciences, National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad actively contributed to the discussions.
