Advisory on Updated Precautionary Measures Following Repeat Leopard Sighting

International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) wishes to inform its students, faculty, staff, residents, and visitors that a leopard has again been sighted in the vicinity of the H-10 New Campus. The University remains fully attentive to the safety and well-being of the entire campus community and is managing the situation with heightened caution and responsibility.

Immediately after the repeat sighting, the matter was again taken up with the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB), the competent statutory authority responsible for wildlife management in the Islamabad Capital Territory. While IIUI is closely monitoring the situation, strengthening on-campus safety arrangements, and extending all necessary facilitation, all operational wildlife response and capture measures fall within the statutory jurisdiction and technical mandate of IWMB.

To enhance safety, the University has:

Installed additional lighting in sensitive and low-visibility areas

Increased patrolling and vigilance by security staff, particularly during evening and night hours

Activated coordination mechanisms with hostel management and campus security teams

Based on IWMB’s recommendations, the following temporary precautionary measures shall be strictly observed:

Unnecessary outdoor movement is to be avoided, particularly during late evening and early morning hours, until further notice.

Access to wooded, bushy, or sparsely populated areas must be strictly avoided.

Identified routes and pathways may be temporarily regulated or restricted, and all members of the campus community are required to comply with such arrangements.

Full cooperation is required to enable IWMB teams to conduct monitoring, tracking, and response operations effectively and without obstruction.

Hostel administrations have been formally directed to ensure communication, compliance, and calm implementation of these advisories within their respective hostels.

These measures are preventive and precautionary, adopted in the interest of safety and to facilitate the timely and effective response of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board, which remains the lead authority for the safe capture and relocation of the animal.

IIUI stands with its students, staff, and residents and will continue to add protective layers within its campus. The University will remain in close coordination with the relevant authorities and will share verified updates only through official channels.
