The Institute of Professional Development (IPD), International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), organized an engaging professional development workshop titled “Problem-Based Learning (PBL): A Workshop for Science Teachers” on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Faisal Masjid Campus.
The workshop opened with a welcome to the participants and an overview of the growing importance of innovative, student-centered pedagogies in modern science education. The central role of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in cultivating critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving among students was highlighted.
Prof. Dr. Nadeem Ahmed Sheikh, Director IPD, conducted the session, offering comprehensive insights into the principles and practical implementation of PBL in science classrooms. The workshop featured a range of interactive activities—including an egg-drop challenge, group discussions, and scenario-based exercises—enabling participants to experience PBL techniques firsthand.
Around 40 teachers from different educational levels, including those from IIUI Schools and select external institutions, took part in the workshop. Participants shared their experiences and explored effective strategies for integrating PBL into their teaching practices. The activities helped them design problem-solving tasks, facilitate student inquiry, and refine classroom management approaches suited to science education.
Participants appreciated the workshop’s practical, hands-on methodology, noting its potential to strengthen learning outcomes in their classrooms.
Through such initiatives, the Institute of Professional Development continues to uphold its commitment to promoting quality education, continuous professional growth, and innovative teaching methodologies.
