The Shari‘ah Academy of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), organized a two-day workshop on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) for judges, prosecutors, and law officers. The workshop, held from 5–6 November 2025, was part of the Global International Humanitarian Law Initiative (GIHLI) aimed at strengthening the domestic application of IHL through judicial engagement.

The event brought together legal experts, scholars, and members of the judiciary to discuss the principles, objectives, and contemporary relevance of International Humanitarian Law. Sessions covered topics such as the introduction and Islamic perspective of IHL, protection of cultural property, the relationship between IHL and international human rights law, and the judiciary’s role in promoting compliance with humanitarian standards.
In the concluding session, Dr. Zia Ullah Rahmani, Regional Advisor, ICRC, appreciated the collaboration and highlighted the importance of engaging the judiciary to reinforce humanitarian principles within national legal systems.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General, Shari‘ah Academy, noted that the Qur’an encourages competition in virtuous deeds and that the ICRC’s objectives align with the humanitarian goals of Islamic law. He reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to continued collaboration with the ICRC to advance understanding and implementation of humanitarian norms in light of Islamic teachings.
The workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, acknowledging the participation of judges and law officers dedicated to promoting humanitarian values and strengthening the rule of law.
