First International Women Conference Held at IIUI: Speakers Stress Women’s Role in Nation-Building

The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) hosted the First International Women Conference on “Women Shaping the Future: Innovation, Resilience and Leadership,” bringing together academics, parliamentarians, human rights activists, and students to deliberate on women’s leadership roles in society.

 

Speaking at the inaugural session, Dr. Huma Chughtai, Human Rights Specialist and former MNA, said women in Pakistan have always carried the torch of leadership, from the creation of the country to the present day. “Leadership is not confined to higher ranks; it can be witnessed in classrooms, villages, and every segment of society,” she remarked. She emphasized that women’s empowerment through research, human rights, and reforms is vital for shaping a constructive society. “Don’t take permission to lead, lead where you stand,” she urged, adding that global thinking with local action is the way forward.

Sharing her experience as an alumna of IIUI, Dr. Chughtai highlighted that studying in a diverse international environment exposed her to the leadership roles of women across various societies.

Deputy Chairman NAB, Sohail Nasir, termed the conference an opportunity to explore women’s leadership roles, calling mothers the strongest examples of leadership. He stressed the need for a well-devised strategy to ensure women’s rights and participation in decision-making.

Addressing the gathering, former MNA Aasiya Nasir said the future of Pakistan lies with women, and it is the responsibility of the empowered to extend support to marginalized women. She emphasized the importance of inclusivity and social cohesion, underscoring that dedicated work in legislative forums and policy implementation organs is essential for ensuring meaningful women’s participation.

 

In her remarks, IIUI Vice President Female Campus, Dr. Amna Mehmood, who also chaired and organized the conference, apprised the participants of its goals. She urged women to come forward with zeal and interest in legislative and public administration roles to empower society across diverse sectors.

The event was also attended by former MNA Suraiya Asghar, Students Advisor (Female) Dr. Rukhsana Tariq, senior faculty members, and a large number of students.

The conference featured thematic sessions on career adaptability, Palestinian women in war zones, women’s resilience, and cognitive diversity, where speakers shed light on women’s struggles, innovation, and resilience in various contexts.
