The program aimed to introduce students of Shariʻah to Pakistan’s contemporary legal system and its interaction with Islamic law.
The sessions focused on key aspects of the prevailing legal framework, including the philosophy of criminal justice and its influence on Pakistani law, as well as the Constitution of Pakistan with its emphasis on Islamic principles. Particular attention was given to family laws, with discussions highlighting existing gaps and the need for reforms in light of Shariʻah and evolving societal requirements.
Resource persons included Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General of Shariʻah Academy; Dr. Abdul Rauf Khatana, Assistant Professor of Law, IIUI; Hafiz Ahmad Waqas, Lecturer at Shariʻah Academy; and Mr. Atiq Ahmad, Research Investigator at Shariʻah Academy. They provided insights on criminal, family, and constitutional law, linking theoretical concepts with the practical challenges faced by Pakistan’s legal system.
Sahibzada Dr. Abul Hassan Muhammad Shah, Vice Principal of the host institution, thanked Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram and the Shariʻah Academy team for conducting the program and expressed hope for continued academic collaboration. In his concluding remarks, Prof. Dr. Akram appreciated the warm hospitality and reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to fostering legal awareness among Shariʻah students.
