Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, President of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), paid an official visit to the Islamic Research Institute (IRI), where he explored its historic gallery, various departments, the section of rare books and antique manuscripts at the Dr. Hamidullah Library, and the institute’s press.
Welcomed by Director General IRI, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia ul Haq, the President was briefed on the institute’s rich history, the Paigham-e-Pakistan initiative, recent facility upgrades, and IRI’s enduring contributions to the advancement of Islamic scholarship.
During his tour, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed expressed deep fascination with the institute’s collection of rare manuscripts and works of celebrated Muslim scientists and scholars such as Al-Biruni and Al-Khawarizmi, alongside exquisite examples of classical calligraphy. He noted the remarkable breadth of subjects these works encompass, establishing a bridge between classical Islamic epistemology and contemporary global thought.
The President observed that such treasures not only preserve the intellectual legacy of the Muslim world but also serve as a launching pad for Islamic scholarship to engage meaningfully with diverse modern discourses.
In addition, the President interacted with post-doctoral scholars, commending their research efforts and the institute’s role in nurturing academic excellence. He lauded the meticulous preservation, scholarly rigor, and vision that enable IRI to remain a dynamic hub for both the safeguarding of Islamic intellectual heritage and the generation of new knowledge.
Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed recorded his impressions in the IRI comments book, noting his appreciation for the institute’s organization, scholarly environment, and contribution to the intellectual landscape.
To mark the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia ul Haq presented him with a souvenir and a selection of the institute’s publications.
