The Faculty of Languages and Literature, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), has inaugurated a series of ten weekly online seminars titled Summer Seminars on Linguistics and Poetics to enrich students’ academic engagement during the summer break.
The first session, The Identity Crisis of the Humanities: Navigating Careers and Confusions, was delivered by Mr. Ahmad Bilal, a writing instructor at Bowling Green State University, USA. In his talk, Mr. Bilal offered a critical perspective on the commodification and commercialization of knowledge in contemporary academia and highlighted practical avenues through which humanities scholars can contribute meaningfully to social development.
Opening the seminar, Professor Dr. Fauzia Janjua, Dean of the Faculty, underscored the importance of preparing young researchers to meet the evolving demands of the modern world by embracing technological innovation and interdisciplinary learning. The session was hosted by Dr. Muhammad Sheeraz Dasti, Incharge of the English Department, and attended by graduate students and faculty members, including Dr. Hafiz Abid Masood and Dr. Ameer Sultan.
The seminar series aims to provide a platform for critical discussion and intellectual growth in the fields of linguistics, literary studies, and poetics throughout the summer.
