The Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), organized a seminar on “Peace Education, Justice, and Strong Institutions in the Light of Sustainable Development Goals”.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness among graduate-level students about justice, peace, and institutional development in the context of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16.
The seminar was attended by esteemed academicians, including Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Chairman, Department of Teacher Education, and Dr. Azhar Mehmood, In-Charge, Programs, Faculty of Education. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, In-Charge, Programs, Department of Teacher Education was the focal person of this activity.
Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal provided an overview of SDG 16, highlighting the global efforts undertaken by the United Nations to achieve peace, justice, and strong institutions. He emphasized the importance of integrated decision-making, international cooperation, violence prevention, addressing root causes of conflicts and inequalities, and understanding the multidimensional nature of violence.
Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan, Assistant Professor, discussed the significance of effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions in ensuring global peace and justice. He elaborated on the pivotal role of the United Nations in promoting these values across nations.
Student speakers, including Mr. Zain ul Abdeen, Mr. Azhar Ali, and Mr. Muhammad Tayyab, presented their perspectives on interfaith harmony and peaceful conflict resolution, encouraging constructive dialogue and understanding among different communities.
Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Chairman of the Department, delivered an address on peace and universal brotherhood from an Islamic perspective. He commended the efforts of Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and the organizing team for arranging the seminar.
Dr. Azhar Mehmood appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Teacher Education and encouraged students to actively participate in similar intellectual engagements in the future. The seminar also witnessed the presence of distinguished faculty members, including Dr. Abdurrehman Alijan, Associate Professor, Dr. Zarina Akhtar, Dr. Asad Abbas Rizvi, Dr. Alina Raza, Dr. Humaira Akram, and Ms. Bushra Rehman, who contributed to the discourse with their insights.
