
The Department of Biological Sciences recently concluded a five-days international hands-on e-workshop titled “Molecular Informatics: Transforming Biotechnology with Computational Techniques.” held from August 31st to September 4th, 2024, via Zoom, the workshop includes 300 participants from across the globe, including BS, MS, Ph.D. scholars, researchers and the faculty members.
The workshop covered a range of topics bridging computational techniques and biotechnology, including Python programming, FASTA, Panda, and Anaconda. Attendees gained hands-on experience in advanced data visualization techniques and data analysis tools relevant to molecular biology, including RNA sequencing and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies.
Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Sciences joined for the inauguration session who appreciated the Department of Biological Sciences for arranging a valuable academic activity. Dr. Shaheen Shahzad, In-charge and Professor Dr. Asif Mir, Chairman of the Department of Biological Sciences also joined the workshop.
Dr. Shaheen Shahzad told that in the workshop organized by their department, it included both International and National speakers, viz., Dr. Michael Saint Antoine- Computational Biologist from Pennsylvania, USA., Dr. Ming-Tommy Tang – Director of Bioinformatics at AstraZeneca, USA., Dr. Waqar Hanif – Founder and former CEO of BioCode, Germany., Mr. Sheraz Ahmad CEO of Algomics, Faisalabad., Dr. Rehan Zafar Paracha – Associate Professor, NUST, Rawalpindi.
The participants said event was a resounding success, offering valuable insights into how computational methods are transforming biotechnology. They told that It empowered participants to enhance their research skills and stay abreast of innovations in the field. Chairman Department of Biological Sciences lauded the efforts of Event Convener Dr. Shaheen Shahzad and Ms. Ammara Bakht, Research Scholar for arranging this important workshop and extend heartfelt thanks to the distinguished speakers and participants who contributed to making this workshop a memorable and impactful experience.
