NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON FLEXIBLE ENERGY SYSTEM: TECHNOLOGY PERSPECTIVE FROM MATERIALS TO CIRCUITS HELD AT IIUI

A National Workshop on “Flexible Energy System: Technology Perspective from Materials to Circuits” was jointly organized by the Department of Physics and Centre of Advanced Electronics and Photovoltaic Engineering (CAEPE) at International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

Workshop was sponsored by the prestigious ICRG Pak-UK Education Gateway Project titled as “Investigation in advanced Energy Harvesters and Energy storage devices for Self-Powered Flexible Energy Systems (FleEnSys)”.

The Chief Guest of the event was the Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation, Prof. Dr. Shahid Mehmood Baig, the distinguished researcher serving as the Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation was the Chief Guest of the event. While addressing the participants of the workshop, he congratulated the organizing team for holding such an expedient, timely and academic event in the backdrop of an international grant. Moreover, he appreciated all the invited Speakers for delivering such amazing talks on smart Energy systems. He also encouraged the students and young researchers to collaborate with Pakistan Science foundation to do meaningful research based on societal outcomes. He also highlighted the importance of scientific research and development for the success of any nation. Prof. Baig also lauded the vision of the President, IIUI which brought the forward-looking approach, initiatives and tangible outcomes for the University.

During the Concluding Ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Shuja Syed, Vice President R&E and Founding Executive Director, Centre for Advanced Electronics & Photovoltaic Engineering (CAEPE), IIUI who also happens to be the Co-Grantee in this international grant delivered a talk on Ideas to Innovation: Industry 4.0 with Self-powered Energy Systems. He summarized the recent advances and requirements of industry 4.0 Revolution with the perspective of energy systems.

Almost 600 participants, including Faculty members, representatives from industries and scientific organizations, Ph.D Scholars, Graduate Students have attended this Workshop drawn from across the country. Dr. Adeel Asghar, Post-doctoral fellow in the project conducted the event whereas Dr. Shaista Shehzada, Chairperson, Department of Physics, welcomed the participants followed by the technical proceedings of the workshop. Invited Speakers of the Workshop delivered very informative talks on the recent advances in Flexible Energy Systems. Dr. Imran Murtaza, who is also the grantee of the ICRG Project gave an overview of the Project and provided the latest findings as an outcome of the grant.

Dr. Carlos Gracia Nunez, from University of West Scotland UK shared his collaborative work with the team IIUI on the smart materials that can be considered for self-powered devices. Dr. Gul Hassan from CAEPE was focused on the wearable and printed electronics and their optimized fabrication. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sultan from Kohsar University Murree, delivered a very informative talk on the development of solution processed Semiconductor for Smart Energy Harvesting. Dr Mashkoor Ahmad from PINSTECH provided an insight regarding some recent progress in the domain of advanced Energy Storage. Prof. Dr. Javed Iqbal Saggu from Quaid-e-Azam University shed some light on the recent Electrode Materials development for smart energy storage systems. Dr. Hassan Saif for FAST has highlighted a very smart and recently invented Mechanical and vibration energy Harvester called “Triboelectric Nanogenerator” and the role of circuit designing in this domain. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Haider from University of Wah explained the strategies to enhance the performance of Perovskite solar cells.

At the end of the workshop shields were distributed, by the chief guest among the invited speakers and organizers of the event.
