CAEPE ORGANIZES NATIONAL WORKSHOP & INTERACTIVE SESSION ON “SELF-POWERED ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM”

Centre for Advanced Electronics & Photovoltaic Engineering (CAEPE), International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a day long workshop titled “National Workshop and Interactive Session on “Self-powered Energy Storage System” under the provision of Higher Education Commission (HEC) PAK UK Education Gateway INNOVATIVE & COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH GRANT (ICRG) Project, which was held here at Auditorium Faculty block-II New Campus of the university. The workshop was fifth in the series of national workshops held here at university so far.

During the inaugural session, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President (Research & Enterprise), IIUI briefed about the research center’s pitch among workshop participants and termed this workshop vital for students for their research projects in their respective fields. On this occasion Dr. Shuja also briefed the audience about linkages of CAEPE with International Research Institutions and said that discourse on energy was started here at the research center back in 2018. A comprehensive presentation regarding investigation in Advanced Energy Harvesters and Energy Storage Devices for Self-powered Flexible Energy Systems was given by Dr. Shuja during the workshop.

He said that the Center for Advanced Electronics and Photovoltaic Engineering (CAEPE) at IIUI is a university wide center aimed to create knowledge and develop cross-disciplinary market-driven research focused on the applications of Advanced Electronics & Photovoltaic Engineering via processes, components and systems. He added that the center is supported by various national and international grants specifically for Islamic Development Bank, (IDB), Kingdom of Saudi Arabi, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), US-DOE Berkeley Lab’s Facility Access Program while, the government of Pakistan has also recently awarded a huge funding for capacity building of the center under the university’s Mega PC-1.

Prof. Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Vice President (A&F), IIUI attended the concluding session of the workshop. Addressing the participants, Dr. Jumani said that such workshops in this specific field are vital for emerging scientists of the nation. He added that in recent years our institution has improved its position in global ranking and further we are improving day by day in all fields of education, specifically in the field of science and technology. He emphasized to enhance collaborations with research institutions and industry to provide best opportunities to our emerging talents because it will have a greater impact for future development on the whole. He furthered that the time has come to organize such interactive workshops which will also help to achieve developmental goals. Dr. Jumani also briefed the vision of President IIUI regarding the university’s strategic plan 2022-2026 on the occasion. He congratulated the organizers of the workshop for conducting it successfully.

Guest speakers/Experts of the workshop include Prof. Dr. Carlos Garcia Nunez, University of West of Scotland, UK (video talk), Dr. Muhammad Zahir Iqbal, Associate Prof, GIKI, Dr. Hadi Heidari, University of Glasgow, UK (video Talk), Dr. Nauman Ahmad Zaffar, Associate professor, LUMS, Dr. Ghulam Ali, Associate Professor, NUST, Dr. Afaque Manzoor Soomro, Assistant Professor, IBA, Sukkur, Dr. Aamir Razzaq, Assistant Professor, COMSATS University Lahore Campus and Dr. Javed Akhtar, Department of Chemistry form MUST.

In the end shields were presented by Prof. Dr. N.B. Jumani to speakers and organizers of the workshop. The workshop was attended by Faculty Members and Research Students form IIUI and other universities, inclusive of industry representatives. The Interactive session and the expert talks were highly appreciated and applauded by the audiences.
