SHARIAH ACADEMY PUBLISHES THE BOOK TITLED: EXPOUNDING THE HANAFI LAW ON BLASPHEMY

The Shariah Academy has published the book titled: Expounding the Hanafi Law on Blasphemy: An Annotated Translation of ‘Allamah Ibn ‘Abidin al-Shami’s Risalah by Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmad.

The book has addressed questions pertaining to the issue of blasphemy, its link with apostasy and punishment thereof. The author has identified aspects of difference between apostasy and blasphemy as well.

The comprehensive work also contains detailed point of view and in depth discussion on all possible aspects such as repentance of the blasphemer, consequences on worldly punishment and position of Muslim ruler to pardon the convict. The author has also discussed various questions such as:  is blasphemy a violation of personal right of the Prophet? What is the standard of evidence for proving the offence of blasphemy? What is the rule for abusing Allah Exalted or any of His angels, or desecrating the Qur’an, or any part thereof? Will the legal consequences be different if the same offence is committed against other prophets?

The author has also explored the subject of punishment for blasphemy against any of the companions of the Prophet. He has pointed out problems in the existing legal regime in Pakistan on blasphemy and gave valuable recommendations for its improvement.
