MD BAIT-UL-MAL VOWS MORE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR IIUI

The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences IIUI in Collaboration with Pakistan Bait-Ul-Mal Islamabad organized one day Seminar on “ Thalassemia Awareness and Prevention. Managing Director Pakistan Bait-Ul-Mal, Barrister Abid Waheed Sheik was the key note speaker and guest of honour, while Professor Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan (Acting President IIUI) graced the occasion as chief gust.

During the seminar, guest speakers- Col. (R) Shafi Ullah, Dr. Nadeem Ikram and two female students of the Department of Sociology gave details of the causes, prevalence and prevention of Thalassemia. The speakers discussed the prevalence of the Thalassemia in different regions of the world and its high rate in Pakistan. The speakers stress that we can reduce and prevent this deadly, painful and costly disorder.

Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh, Managing Director Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal appreciated the efforts of the Department of Sociology’ Faculty members and students for organizing the seminars in such an excellent manner. The Managing Director gave a comprehensive lecture on the functions and role of Pakistan Bait-ul-mal and highlighted the area in which Bait-ul-Mal is working.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Acting President IIUI lauded the joint activity of the Department of Sociology and Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal. He also highlighted key features of IIUI and its contribution to Pakistani society and global Muslim community. He proposed on the occasion that Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal should double the number of scholarship for IIU students. The Managing Director Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal welcomed Prof. Dr. Bashir Khan’s proposal and consented that IIU students will be given the maximum scholarship.

Earlier, The Chairman Department of Sociology, Dr. Hazir Ullah, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of public awareness in the prevention of Thalassemia in Pakistan. Dr. Hazir Ullah appreciated Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal efforts for establishing state of the art Thalassemia Center in F-9 Park for the poor and needy people. Dr. Hazir also asserted that the Department of sociology is having the most dynamic faculty members and will cooperate with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal in improving its various programme.

At the end, Dr. Rabia Gul, Acting Chairperson (female) thanked all the guests and expressed her deep gratitude to MD Bait-Ul-Mal, guest speakers , acting President IIU and the entire team of the Department of Sociology.
