SHARIAH ACADEMY ARRANGES TRAINING COURSE AT JAMIA ASHRAFIA LAHORE

A two-day training program was organized by Shariah Academy of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with Jamia Ashrafia at Lahore in which 67 Mufties participated. The course was arranged at Jamia Ashrafia under the banner of an MOU already signed between the both sides.

The Inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Munir Director Shariah Academy and Vice President (HS&R) IIUI, and Mulana Fazul ur Raheem Vice principle of Jamia Ashrafia was the chief guest of the occasion. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Munir, in his presidential address highlighted the objectives of the said program and told that the main aim of the course is to acquaint the mufties with modern trends and legal system of Pakistan specially Muslim Personal laws, Islamic Financial system and Constitutionalising Islam in Pakistan.

Mulana Fazul ur Raheem was very thankful to Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Ahmed Al Draiweeshis President International Islamic University, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Munir Director Shariah Academy and Vice President (HS&R) IIUI for conducting this training program.

Mulana Akram Kashmiri registrar Jamia Ashrafia was also present on the occasion, while Dr. Habib Ur Rehman, Chairman Department of Training , Shariah Academy briefed about the different activities of the Shariah Academy.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Munir in his first lecture discussed how British east India Company came to the subcontinent for the purpose of trade  and gradually started interfering in the local justice system which was based on Islamic law (Hanfi School of thought). He also highlighted the legal history of indo-pak. However on the second day of workshop Prof. Dr. Muhammad Munir delivered lectures on “Constitutionalzing Islam in Pakistan” and “Dissolution of Marriage Act 1939: An overview”.

Dr. Shahbaz Cheema gave a brief introduction of jurisdiction of Federal Shariat court. Mr. Abdul Jabbar Karimi (Senior Vice President Allied Bank Limited, Pakistan) addressed on Islamic Finance. Dr. Zubair Abbassi (Assistant Professor LUMS) delivered lecture on “Khula in Islamic law & Pakistani legal system”.

In the concluding session the Nazim Jamia Ashrafia Mulana Asad Ubaid was the chief guest, stressed upon the need for such kind of courses to bring mufties and ulama closer to the main stream of modern scholarship and acquaint them with the prevailing legal system, financial laws, and Muslim personal laws. The participant of the training course also requested the Academy to continue such courses in the future indeed they realize the benefits of the course and appreciated the efforts of Academy in this regards. At the end of the program certificates were distributed among the participants.
