4th International Conference on Distance Education and E-Learning (ICDEEL-2024) Held

The 4th International Conference on Distance Education and E-Learning (ICDEEL-2024) concluded at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), marking a significant milestone in addressing challenges and opportunities in distance education and e-learning.
Organized by the Department of Teacher Education at the Faculty of Education, in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, the event brought together renowned scholars, educators, and practitioners from around the world to share insights and strategies for advancing education through technology.

In the conference, President, IIUI, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Shuja Syed, President of IIUI, highlighted the integration of conventional and online education to tackle issues such as out-of-school children.

The event was also graced by Dr. Amna, In-Charge, Female Campus who also highlighted significance of distance learning.

Other key speakers, such as Dr. Zarina Akhtar and Prof. Dr. Uzaira Rafique, discussed the importance of bridging gaps in education and leveraging technological trends to enhance learning outcomes.

The conference began with an inaugural ceremony that set the tone for the two-day event. Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, the Conference Chair, welcomed participants, emphasizing the need to address the digital divide and innovate in distance education. Distinguished speakers, including A series of keynote speeches and parallel sessions formed the core of the conference, with experts like Prof. Rui Li from the USA and Dr. Katia Lankova from the UAE addressing critical topics, such as the future of distance education and the transformative potential of e-learning for gender empowerment. Discussions also explored the psychological impact of online learning, blended education models, and innovative strategies to overcome barriers in distance education. Around 70 parallel paper presentations facilitated robust academic discussions, providing a platform for researchers and practitioners to share findings and exchange ideas.

The closing ceremony, graced by Mr. Aftab Muhammad Khan, Secretary General of the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to promote equitable access to quality education. Mr. Khan highlighted UNESCO’s role in aligning national policies with global educational goals and called for the actionable recommendations from the conference to be implemented. The event’s comprehensive report, presented by Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, summarized key insights, including strategies for digital literacy, flexible learning options, and policies to bridge gender and technology gaps.

Dr. Munir Kayani, in his concluding remarks, expressed gratitude to participants, speakers, and the organizing team for making ICDEEL-2024 a resounding success. He acknowledged the support of the HEC and IIUI leadership in fostering innovation in education. The event ended with the presentation of souvenirs to distinguished guests and accolades for the organizing team.
