IIUI PRESIDENT SPEAKS ON AL-QUDS ISSUE IN AL AZHAR CONFERENCE

President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has said in Al Azhar International Conference on Al-Quds at Egyptian capital that Palestine issue was not a political one but it was a religious issue and Muslims must be united to call for the rights of Palestinians and Muslim Ummah.

The conference in in Support of Al Quds which ran for two days in the Egyptian capital, where officials and figures from around 86 countries attended the conference, it was organized by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the highest seat of learning in the Sunni Muslim world.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, Arab League chief Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, Secretary-General of the World Council of Churches Rev. Olav Fykse Tveit and many other renowed figures were among attendees in the event.

The two-day conference discussed ways of providing support for preserving the Palestinian and Arab identity of the holy city and maintained  in final communique that Al Quds will continue to be the eternal capital of the State of Palestine.

In his speech, Dr. Al-Draiweesh hailed Al-Azhar for its efforts granted to the humanity. He said that important conference comes at a time when Islamic countries are in an imperative phase and facing enormous challenges and concerns.

He stressed that Muslim youth must be sensitized regarding the prerogative of Al-Quds and they must be told that it was the most precious legacy belongs to them. He highlighted the importance and historical background of Al-Quds. He called for liberation of the territory terming it the pre-requisite for justice and human rights.

Held under the patronage of Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, 

the conference saw discussions on ways to create awareness about the Jerusalem cause and its Arab identity, and the international responsibility towards it following the US President Donald Trump’s recent decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The conference’s final communique, delivered by Grand Imam of Al Azhar Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb,called for standing against any attempt to harm the holy city, Judaize it, and change its characteristics and its eternal Arab-Islamic cultural identity.

The communique affirmed that the US has to backpedal on the its decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, otherwise the move would abet more terrorism and violence in the whole world.
