ption is the biggest constraint in country’s development which must be dealt with an iron hand, said Aliya Rashid, Director General (Awareness and Prevention) National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
She was delivering a lecture on “Role of Women in Prevention of Corruption” here at the female campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI)
She said that youth play a vital role in fighting corruption. With a focus on role of women and young girls in saying ‘No-to-Corruption,’ she advised young students to be complacent and do not demand of expensive things from their parents.
The DG NAB, while terming corruption as a menace to society’s progress furthered that it could be in many forms such as bribery, misuse of authority, nepotism, embezzlement, cheating and extortion. She also mentioned steps taken by National Accountability Bureau to curb corruption.
“Women power against corruption can change the destiny of our country” She emphasized. She added that since mothers have a major impact in bringing up children and their attitude, “Say No to Corruption” is intended to target young ladies in Universities and Colleges who are going to be future mothers of our children.
Aliya Rashid’s new concept involves women, youth and children in which she explained how there is a tendency for family members to unintentionally create pressures for the family bread winners through their demands for items that become part of developing a luxurious life style.
She said that every Pakistani realizes that corruption is the mother of all our ills. It has given birth to nepotism and favoritism, and has negated meritocracy, transparency and accountability.
The lecture was also addressed by Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani who called for united efforts to uproot the menace of corruption. He said universities can play vital role in curbing the problem of corruption, adding that IIUI would be found always available in this regard.
Earlier, Prof. Dr Samina Malik, Director Female Campus, IIUI, thanked DG NAB while terming her lecture as inspirational.
She said that the awareness session has made everyone think as to how we all can play a constructive role in inhibiting this social disease from advancing further.
In the end, the students vowed enthusiastically saying, ‘say no to corruption’ and pledged to help build a corruption free Pakistan.
