DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION: 4 DAY TRAINING WORKSHOP ON RESEARCH METHODS & SKILLS STARTS

The Department of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad has designed a Professional Development Program for University Teachers (PDPUT). This is an intensive in- service training of university teachers on the pattern of HEC programs. The aim of series of workshop is to enhance pedagogical and research skills of teaching faculty. The workshop will comprise of 09 areas out of which an important one is Research Methods & Skills which is to be the 6th in the series. The opening ceremony of workshop held at the seminar room, Fatima Tuz Zahra Block Female Campus, IIUI followed by two training sessions on the entitled theme. In their welcome addresses, Dr. N.B Jumani, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences and Dr. Samina Malik Director Female Campus acknowledged resource persons and faculty members for their participation. They evoked the need of training programs and dynamic research skills for university teachers in order to cater challenging demands of 21st century. Resource person Dr. Azhar Mahmood (Assistant Professor) Department of Education conducted first session of this workshop.

PIC by Education1He gave detail presentation on Qualitative Research Design and its allied concepts including characteristics, features, approaches and procedures/ steps of qualitative research. Dr. Azhar also elaborated the role of researcher while applying qualitative research paradigm. He further explained mixed method research and its distinguishing features. Second session of the workshop was conducted by Dr. Shamsa Aziz (Assistant Professor) Department of Education (Female Campus). She had interactive discussion with the participants regarding quantitative research and its related concepts. She thoroughly explained different types of quantitative research designs including descriptive/ survey, co-relational, causal comparative and experimental design using practical examples and activities. Dr. Shamsa also highlighted importance of mixed method research paradigm while presenting comparison of qualitative & quantitative research approaches.
