Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President International Islamic University Islamabad participated in the 7th General Conference of Federation of Universities of Islamic World which was held under the patronage of King of Moroco Mohammed VI, at the headquarters of the Islamic Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Rabat, Kingdom of Moroco.

The conference aims to review the performance of universities of Islamic World and to address the issues and contemporary challenges with developing linkages, cooperation and support to each others on local, national and international level.The conference also approved several projects and took important decisions including extension of Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri as Secretary-General and selection of Prof. Dr. Suleiman bin Abdullah Aba Al-Khail member of the Council of Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia and Pro Chancellor International Islamic University Islamabad as Chairman of Executive Council of FUIW.


On this occasion, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh offered his heartiest congratulations to Dr. Altwaijri and Prof. Dr. Suleiman bin Abdullah Aba Al-Khail on their appointment saying that beyond any doubt they are worthy for it; as they both put their efforts in raising the profile of FUIW and proved its presence in the Islamic and international arenas, and strengthen its capacity and the development of its organs. He admired the services of both mentioning their role for the implementation of its programs in accordance with the plans prepared for that and under the direct and continuous supervision.

Spring tree plantation campaign kicked-off here at new campus of the university which was inaugurated by the Acting President, Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan who planted a fruit tree.

According to details provided by Landscape Development and Biodiversity Conservation Program, during campaign, around one thousand of plant seedlings donations/ committed by organizations/ persons will be planted in the university premises.  In this season priority species are indigenous fruit trees, flowering trees, shade trees and medicinal plants. Plants having multiple properties shall be preferred.

On the occasion officials of the varsity’s Landscape Development and Biodiversity Conservation Program were also present who included Dr. Muhammad Ibrar Shinwari, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Science, who is the Team Leader of Program (Male Campus) and Dr. Rukhsana Tariq, Chairperson (Acting), Department of Environmental Science (Female Campus).

Meanwhile, Dr. Tariq Rafiq, Dr. Rakhshanda Aziz and Mr. Jamal ud Din Qureshi along with PhD students were also present on the occasion. In this regard, preparations have been made by IIU Landscape Development and Biodiversity Conservation Program in collaboration with IIU Horticulture Section, CDA, Green Circle Organization, ARL (Pvt) and NCPC.

Dawah Academy of International Islamic University (IIUI) has organized a two-day international moot on “reconstruction of thought education, society & civilization from an Islamic Perspective: Appraisal of Dr. Mahmood Ahmad Ghazi’s contribution”.

The event will be held at Faisal Masjid Campus on February 22-23 where national and international scholars will present their papers on the subject.

A group of twenty​students and six faculty members of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) visited Karachi and a Gawader under “Devote Baluchistan program” organized by Govt of Baluchistan and Southern Command.

As per given information by students Advisor office, the students and faculty from five universities of federal capital included IIUI, QAU, NUST, COMSATS, AIOU and Lasbela university took part in the visit. The main aim of the visit was to integrate the youth from different parts of Pakistan and to create harmony among them. The activity also included programs such as seminars, interactive sessions and debates.

The 80th meeting of the Board of Governors of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) was held here at Faisal Masjid campus of the university.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Rector IIUI and Chairman Board of Governors of University and attended by Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI (Vice-Chairman) and the board members, with detailed agenda.

The members included Mr. Muhammad Rafiq Tahir, Joint Secretary Education, Mr. Haseeb Athar , Secretary, Ministry of Education, Prof. Dr. Ali Asghar Chishti, Dean Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies (AIOU), Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali G. Shaikh, Pro Chancellor ISRA university, Mr. Justice (Rtd.) Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan (participated via Skype call), Former Chief Justice, Lahore High Court and Professor Dr. Idrees Zubair, Ex-Professor, Islamic Studies, AIOU. It was also attended by Vice President Academics Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan and Director General, Khalid Mehmood Raja.

New Manager of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL), IIUI Branch, Muhammad Umair Rana called on Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

The new Manager was also accompanied by the former Manager of the Bank, Mr. Umar Farooq. Dr. Al-Draiweesh hailed the services of Mr. Umar and hoped that the newly deputed manager will be found cooperative. Mr. Umair vowed that he will be found helpful in terms of cooperation and varsity development.

In order to provide ideal milieu of research, experimenting and utilization of techniques, the Department of Psychology of the university has established a complex of Labs for its students.

Department’s Psychology Lab provides highly interactive resources for studying, experimenting, testing and teaching of psychological science. The Lab is equipped with variety of resources available for students’ use. The peer-reviewed materials include online studies and co-relational studies, large data sets, demonstrations, and teaching aids. Department of Psychology established the first well equipped lab in the faculty of social science having latest psychological test and equipment. Students can use the database to further learning about psychological phenomena and the scientific process, including research methods, practical applications, and ethics.

The department has established a book library where more than 200 books are available in the psychology department’s library.  A good number of magazines, newsletters, conference proceedings, research journals, theses and clinical internship reports are also available for reference. The department has also an e-book database available for the students with more than 1000 psychology books.

Another features introduced by the department for its students is its digital base. The digital lab is equipped with latest research software (qualitative and quantitative software). The department has psychological tests/ scales and an experiments video database available for the students with more than 500 videos.

 Psychology department has established four testing cubibis as well which provide facility of psychological assessment and individual counseling.

In the continuation of School Adoption plan of IIUI’s education department under community outreach, the committee of female faculty members including Dr. Munazza Mahmood Assistant Professor, Dr. Zarina Akhter Assistant Professor and Ms. Humaira Akram Teaching and Research Associate, visited Government Girls High School Khayaban-e-Sir Syed Sector 1, Rawalpindi for discussing department’s mission with the Principal and to further conduct need assessment.

After a discussion with the Principal, Madam Roohi Yasmeen, the committee decided to include; Elementary level teachers as the target trainees, Mathematics and Science subject for content training. Furthermore, area of training will be based on the concurrent need analysis of academic planner i.e. test construction, micro teaching, lesson planning, teaching aids etc. and trainings will be held on monthly basis. The principal acknowledged the efforts and cooperation of Department of Education in the promotion of community outreach.


IIUI, Afghan education delegation discuss cooperation

An eleven member Afghan education delegation headed by its Higher Education Minister, Farida Momand visited Faisal Masjid campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and discussed matters pertaining to boosting bilateral educational ties with the leadership of the university.

The delegation had a detailed meeting with IIUI Rector Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. The delegation members included Deputy minister for Higher education Abdul Tawab Balakarzai, Mr. Shams ur Rehman Rehamani, Vice Chancellor Kabul Medical university, Abdul Haq Haqiq, VC Balkh University, Hazrat Totakhail, VC Qandhar university, while officials from HEC also accompanied the delegation.

“Afghan Higher Education ministry wants to build an Islamic University like at its Nangarhar province” said Farida Momand. She added that well-established education relations can help in further improving relationship between both countries.  She told that visit of the delegation to Pakistan was a fruitful step as the delegation signed an MoU of 3000 scholarships with Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

Rector IIUI focused on higher education quality and linkages of universities for sharing experiences. He said that IIUI will provide every possible cooperation to Afghan higher education ministry. He added that a substantial number of students are inducted at IIUI who have proved their abilities. IIUI Rector maintained that Pakistan has observed a mentionable improvement in higher education and said that it was result of HEC’s efforts. He furthered that HEC and Pakistani universities are focusing to reach hundred percent PhD goal.

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh said that Afghanistan is a country which has suplendid history and its large number of students acquired education at IIUI and were hired on mentionable positions. He apprised the delegation about the linkages of the university and told that internationalization is one of the core objectives of the IIUI and it strongly encourages bilateral cooperation woth all the educational institutions of the world.

International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is playing a pivotal role in dissemination of peace and moderation in the societies of Muslim world. University, to achieve its lofty goals, remains active by conducting forum discussions, conferences and seminars.

University has another distinction of organizing a cultural week which is a multi-cultural event where students of more than forty countries showcase their cultures. It has been a splendid tradition of the university which also includes competitions of Quran and Hadith.

University’s all faculties and departments take active part in the activities and this year would be a rich one in terms of holding events for the improvements in educational standards, promotion of peace and tranquility.

IIUI President has been heading all the meetings for scheduling and arranging events and he has also directed all the concerned to expedite efforts for holding events. Meanwhile, a schedule of the activities of Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences, Faculty on Engineering and Technology and other faculties will also be announced soon.
