Shari‘ah Academy of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and the University of Jordan jointly organized a seminar titled “Integrating Shariah into the Legal System: Experiences from Jordan and Pakistan” at the University of Jordan, Amman.
The seminar was arranged during the study visit of participants of the 67th Regular Shariah Course to Jordan, with the aim of promoting academic cooperation and sharing experiences on harmonizing Islamic law with contemporary legal frameworks.
The session was hosted by the University of Jordan’s International Affairs Unit in collaboration with its Faculties of Shariah and Law. Vice President of the University of Jordan, Dr. Amira Al-Masri, attended the event along with Dr. Shakaib Rafique, Minister/Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Pakistan in Jordan, and Dr. Abd Al-Naser Abu Al-Basal, former Minister of Auqaf, besides senior academics and researchers
Two academic sessions featured nine research papers, with presentations from IIUI’s Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Mr. Sohail Sani, and Mr. Hafiz Atiq ur Rehman, while experts from the University of Jordan included Dr. Abd Al-Rahman Al-Kilani, Dr. Basem Malhem, and Dr. Nawfan Al-Ajarmeh.
Speakers highlighted how Jordan has incorporated Islamic principles into personal laws, financial regulations, and judicial practices, presenting it as a structured model for integrating Shariah into a modern legal system. Discussions also compared judicial practices in Pakistan and Jordan, covering constitutional, administrative, and family laws.
The seminar concluded with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to academic cooperation. Participants noted that such engagements strengthen legal scholarship and support the Shariah Academy’s mission of providing international learning exposure to judicial officers and law professionals.
