A delegation from the Shari‘ah Academy of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), comprising participants of the 67th Regular Shari‘ah Course for Judges and Law Officers, is currently undertaking an academic visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. As part of its engagements, the delegation was received at the General Iftaa Department where the Grand Mufti of Jordan, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Hasanat, briefed them on the country’s Iftaa system and its operational structure.
The Grand Mufti explained the institutional framework of Jordan’s Iftaa mechanism, noting its recognized and centrally administered model. He highlighted how the system ensures uniformity, credibility, and nationwide acceptance. The session included an interactive discussion in which members of the delegation raised questions on jurisprudence, institutional functioning, and fatwa-related procedures.
During the exchange, the Grand Mufti underscored the strong culture of religious harmony in Jordan and said that differences among schools of thought are addressed with respect and ethical conduct. He also outlined the competitive criteria for selecting Muftis, which include extensive training, supervised practice, and a rigorous evaluation process to maintain scholarly standards.
The Grand Mufti expressed interest in expanding academic cooperation with the Shari‘ah Academy, IIUI, and other Pakistani institutions. He proposed exploring structured collaborations such as memoranda of understanding, faculty exchanges, technical support, and joint academic activities to strengthen Iftaa practices in Pakistan.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General of the Shari‘ah Academy, thanked the Grand Mufti and the Iftaa Department for their hospitality. He said the delegation found the visit constructive for understanding comparative Iftaa systems and gaining exposure to contemporary approaches to justice, jurisprudence, and fatwa issuance.
The visit is being facilitated as part of the university’s broader vision under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), to promote international academic engagement and capacity building.
