IIUI adds a new auditorium to Islamabad Inauguration on May 30th, 2008 at 11.00 a.m.
The new Auditorium Complex is an integral part of Faisal Mosque Complex. When Faisal Mosque was completed, the Auditorium was abandoned after completion of structural work. It remained abandoned for decades. Air-conditioning plant had been procured but no ducting work had been carried out and the plant was never made operational.

A special grant of Rs.50.00/- million was provided to the IIU by the Government to rehabilitate, renovate and furnish the Auditorium. One of major issue was to examine the feasibility of using the air-conditioning plant which had been procured almost 20 years ago and had remained without functioning. Opinions of Consultants were sought and most of them opined that the plant was obsolete and should be replaced with new one. This was a very expensive proposition and would have cost around Rs.30.00 million. The University Engineers have resolved that after replacement of some components, the plant has been made operational at the cost of Rs.5.00 million.

The work started with the air-conditioning work which, in addition to the modification of A.C plant, included air-conditioning ducting. Civil and plumbing work was started in last quarter of the year 2007.

The Auditorium Complex includes the Auditorium, committee rooms, Offices, Banquet Hall and allied services. The total area of the Complex is 40,500 square feet.

The Auditorium has an area of 10,850 square feet. It has a seating capacity of 600 audiences. Roof has a special design false ceiling of wooden beams and fabric covered panels over which air-conditioning ducts and electrical wiring has been placed. Imported audience seats have been installed. There are four rooms for Media and two control rooms. The media rooms are for interpreters as facility has been provided for 100 seats where the audience can hear through head phones from one of the four languages. Provision has been made to extend this facility to remaining of 500 seats when necessitated. Back stage rooms have been provided and one room having an area of 600 sq. ft. can be used as Committee Room. SIS system, PA system and lighting are handled from the control room.

Special panels have been installed on the walls for acoustic. The walls are decorated with calligraphic in teak wood.

On the other side of the Auditorium is a large Banquet Hall having an area of 5930 square feet. The flooring of the hall is combination of marble and granite. On one side of the banquet hall is a wide gallery, finished with marble and screened with teak wood trellis. This wide gallery is to be used as lounge, furnished with sofa sets. The banquet hall is decorated with calligraphy in terra quota tiles and on the other side is an open yard 57' x 57' decorated with fountain finished in black granite surrounded by plants which is soothing to the eyes. The banquet hall is served from adjoining kitchen which has an area of 1800 sq. feet. On the other side of the banquet hall are offices and small committee rooms.

The entire Auditorium Complex is centrally air-conditioned. An independent electric connection has been obtained from IESCO which includes transformer etc. for the Complex. As a stand by arrangement, a generator of 315 KVA capacity has been made available.

The completion of the Auditorium Complex is a land mark for the International Islamic University as very few auditoriums have this much capacity which can be utilized for diversified activities. Moreover, with the completion of the Auditorium Complex, Faisal Mosque has now been completed.
