IIUI’s Language Centre Holds Workshop on Literature Review

The Centre for Language Teaching (CLT) at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), in collaboration with the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the U.S. Embassy Islamabad and PakTESOL, organized a focused workshop titled “Mastering Literature Review Essentials.” The initiative was aimed at enhancing research capabilities among postgraduate students and faculty members.

The workshop brought together participants from IIUI and several universities across Islamabad, providing an opportunity to strengthen core research skills—particularly in the area of literature review writing, a critical aspect of academic research and scholarly writing.

Dr. Ivan Eubank, Director of UCCI TV at the University College of the Cayman Islands and a seasoned expert in communication, served as the lead resource person. During the session, Dr. Eubank introduced participants to structured approaches for conducting literature reviews and shared tools and techniques for critically analyzing academic material. His practical strategies encouraged participants to engage in analytical and methodical review writing.

Dr. Kamal, Project Director of PakTESOL, addressed the audience and underscored the importance of organizing such training sessions to facilitate academic and professional development. He reaffirmed PakTESOL’s ongoing commitment to supporting educators and learners across the country through training opportunities and collaborative initiatives.

Mr. Rashid Naqvi, Country Program Director of RELO, also spoke at the occasion. He expressed appreciation for the partnership with IIUI and highlighted RELO’s continued interest in working jointly on educational programs in Pakistan. He briefed attendees on RELO’s initiatives that aim to improve English language education in the region.

Prof. Dr. Fauzia Janjua, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Literature, graced the event as the chief guest. In her remarks, she commended the CLT team for organizing the workshop and emphasized the relevance of literature review skills in research-based academic programs. She stressed the value of collaborative academic efforts and the importance of institutional partnerships to advance faculty and student development.

The workshop specifically focused on critical components of literature review writing, such as identifying relevant sources, conducting critical evaluations of academic texts, and effectively integrating findings into scholarly work. These elements were delivered through interactive discussions and hands-on exercises that engaged participants throughout the session.

According to the organizers, the workshop was part of the Centre’s broader efforts to promote academic development and encourage research-based practices within IIUI. Dr. Ameer Sultan, In-Charge of the Centre for Language Teaching, remarked that the session was designed to address the increasing need for research capacity-building at the postgraduate level and to foster a stronger research culture at the university.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from various departments. The CLT also announced its intention to continue organizing similar training initiatives in the future as part of its commitment to strengthening the university’s academic environment.

This workshop aligns with IIUI’s wider strategy to promote academic excellence and support research development through collaboration with national and international academic and professional bodies.
