IIUI Hosts Second National Moot Court Competition to Promote Applied Legal Education

International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized the Second National Moot Court Competition under the patronage of the Dean, Faculty of Sharia and Law, reaffirming the Faculty’s focus on strengthening applied legal education. The competition was arranged by the Moot Court Society of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the University’s old campus and provided a structured academic platform for experiential learning and professional training in legal studies.

The event brought together 16 teams from law faculties across Pakistan, reflecting broad national participation. Renowned judicial and legal figures, including Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan, Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan; Justice Mushir Alam, former Judge of the Supreme Court; and Barrister Salman Safdar, senior advocate of the Supreme Court, attended the proceedings. Their engagement contributed to the academic depth of the competition and offered students valuable exposure to professional legal practice.

The moot proposition focused on Intellectual Property Law and was based on a recent trademark-related legal case involving IIUI. By drawing on a real legal dispute, the competition enabled participants to apply legal principles in a practical context, enhancing their skills in legal research, drafting, advocacy, and courtroom presentation.

At the conclusion of the competition, Bahria University Islamabad was declared the winner. Participants and guests appreciated the standard of organization and the quality of legal arguments presented by competing teams. The event underscored the role of the Faculty of Sharia and Law in promoting practice-oriented legal education and contributing to the University’s academic profile at the national level.
