IIUI Academic Council Holds 90th Meeting, Approves 35 Academic and Policy Agenda Items

The 90th meeting of the Academic Council of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) was held on Wednesday, January 07, 2026, in the Council Hall, Admin Block, New Campus (H-10 Sector). The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, President, IIUI.

In total, 35 agenda items were taken up during the meeting. The minutes of the 89th meeting were confirmed, observations thereon were discussed, and the implementation report on previous decisions was reviewed, with the Council expressing satisfaction over progress made.

Out of the total agenda items, 28 were approved, while five were referred to relevant committees and concerned departments for further deliberation. The Council also ratified 15 items earlier approved by the President, IIUI, in his capacity as Chairman of the Academic Council.

Among the major approvals were the schemes of studies for doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degree programs as well as diploma programs of the Faculties of Languages and Literature, Social Sciences, Shariah and Law, Usuluddin, and Sciences. Recommendations of the Faculty Boards, including MS and PhD programs, were also endorsed.

The Council approved the revision of fee structures for undergraduate programs and endorsed the admission of B.Tech candidates into four-year engineering programs. It also approved the recommendations of BASR-98-2025 regarding eight PhD scholars, allowing them to proceed with the remaining requirements for completion of their degrees in accordance with university procedures.

Furthermore, the Academic Council approved the report and recommendations of the Dean, Faculty of Sciences, for the initiation of a BS Chemistry program. The Program Structure and Course Structure (PSP & CSP) of BS Statistics (Data Sciences), BS Computational Mathematics, and Artificial Intelligence were also approved.

The Council also gave approval to proceed with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Ministry of Planning for the establishment of a constituent institute of IIUI at Lahore in due course, subject to the fulfillment of all requisite formalities.

The meeting reaffirmed IIUI’s commitment to strengthening academic quality, expanding academic offerings, and promoting institutional development in line with national priorities.
