English Department Concludes Skill-Based Workshop Series for BS Students

The English Literary Society (ELS), in collaboration with the Department of English at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), has concluded a three-part workshop series focused on enhancing key academic skills among female BS English students.

The workshop series aimed to strengthen student competencies in academic writing, grammar, and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scholarly work. Each session was designed to address a core skill relevant to academic success and research engagement.

The series commenced with a session titled “Mastering the Craft: From Thesis Statement to Essay Writing.” Professor, Dr. Fauzia Janjua, Dean, Faculty of Languages and Literature, and Dr. Saiyma Aslam, Associate Professor, Chairperson, Department of English, graced the opening event. Dr. Amal Sayyid, Assistant Professor, conducted the session, guiding students through thesis formulation, paragraph structuring, and essay development. Over 100 students attended, engaging in writing activities and discussions.

The second workshop, “Grammar Essentials: Building Blocks for Clear and Confident Writing,” was led by Ms. Maryam Majeed, Teaching Research Associate at FLL. The session focused on sentence structure, punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and common grammatical issues. Through group work and live correction exercises, participants were provided hands-on learning experiences to enhance their clarity and accuracy in writing.

In the final session, “AI and English Scholar: Critical Engagement and Responsible Use,” Dr. Asma Mansoor, Assistant Professor / In-Charge (P&PR) addressed the role of AI in research and writing. She emphasized ethical use and critical engagement with AI tools, highlighting how such technologies can support creativity and efficiency without compromising academic standards.

The well-attended sessions reflect growing student interest in developing both traditional and contemporary academic skills. The Department of English and ELS have expressed commitment to continuing such initiatives to prepare students for evolving academic challenges.
