DSA, FSL Organizes Seminar on Competition Laws

Directorate of Student Affairs (Male) in collaboration with the Faculty of Shariah and Law (FSL), IIUI, and the Competition Commission of Pakistan organized a one-day seminar on the topic “Competition Laws in the Context of Evolving Economic & Digital Landscape.”

Dr. H. Ghufran, Director Student Affairs (M), delivered the welcome note to the participants. He highlighted the importance and application of laws and regulations in helping communities and societies regulate industries for the smooth conduct of operations in a fair, healthy, and competitive environment, thereby protecting the interests of end users.

Ms. Maryam Pervaiz, Secretary to the Commission/HOD (Advocacy), delivered a thoughtful presentation on the working of cartels at national and international levels. She explained how cartels conduct illegal operations that damage healthy competition among industries and businesses, ultimately harming customers’ interests. She also elaborated on the role of the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) in discouraging and stopping the functioning of cartels.

Ms. Maliha Qudus, Senior Joint Director/Deputy HOD, further highlighted the trade abuses of cartels and explained the measures taken by CCP to ensure fair and healthy competition among industries and businesses.

Mr. Noman Ahmad, Assistant Director Mergers and Acquisition, briefed the audience about the functioning of CCP regarding the nature, types, and activities related to takeovers, mergers, and acquisitions among national and international business organizations and manufacturers.

Dr. Muhammad Zia ul Haq, Dean Faculty of Shariah and Law and DG IRI, delivered the note of thanks to the participants, including students, DSA officials, and CCP representatives. He appreciated the visit of the CCP team, particularly acknowledging the contribution of Mr. Salman Amin, Member CCP.

At the end, Mr. Salman Amin delivered an informative and engaging address, highlighting the scope, functioning, and opportunities available for students of law and legislation at the Competition Commission of Pakistan.

Souvenirs were presented to Dr. Zia ul Haq and Dr. Ghufran by Mr. Salman Amin, Member CCP, while DSA (M) and the Faculty of Shariah and Law also presented souvenirs to the visiting team of the Competition Commission of Pakistan.
