Department of Sociology Organizes Research Methodology Workshop

The Department of Sociology, International Islamic University Islamabad, successfully organized a five-day Workshop on Research Methodology from 24th to 28th November 2025. The major aim of the workshop was to equip sociology students with the skills required to conduct successful sociological research. Participants included PhD and MS students from the Department of Sociology at IIUI, Arid Agriculture University, and Quaid-i-Azam University.

The training covered the philosophical foundations of sociological research, the significance of theory for research, phenomenology, grounded theory, discourse analysis, quantitative research analysis, mixed-method design, and the writing of academic articles for novice researchers.

The trainers included well-reputed sociologists: Dr. Rabia Ali from IIUI, Dr. Akhlaq Ahmad from the University of the Punjab, Dr. Muhammad Shoaib from the University of Gujrat, Dr. Amber Ferdoos from IIUI, Dr. Tauqeer Hussain from NUST, Dr. Raza Ullah from Rawalpindi Women University, Dr. Nasim Khan Mahsud from Allama Iqbal Open University, Dr. Saira Batool from IIUI, Dr. Sohail Malik from IIUI, and Dr. Asya Ashfaq from Bahria University, Islamabad.

Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi, participated in the concluding session and distributed shields and certificates among the trainers and participants. In his concluding remarks, he appreciated the efforts of the Department and emphasized the importance of research methodology workshops for improving the quality of research among students.

Earlier, Dr. Babar Akram, Chairman, Department of Sociology, also visited the session and appreciated the Department’s efforts. The chief organizers, Dr. Rabia Ali and Dr. Saira Batool, thanked the Dean FSS for his constant support and supervision. They acknowledged the speakers for their time and participation, and appreciated the efforts of the student organizers (PhD I and MS I scholars) for their contribution.
