International Islamic University, Islamabad, is in the process of embarking on a new phase in the history of the University. We are busy in making preparations for an expansion plan both in terms of education as well as in terms of physical development.A couple of years back the University has shifted to its new campus in Sector H-10 of Islamabad. The vast and beautiful area allocated to the International Islamic University by the Government of Pakistan provides almost unlimited opportunities for expansion and diversification for the next 25 years. The University was established in 1980 to commemorate the dawn of the 15th century of Hijrah. The new century was considered by many in the Muslim World to be the beginning of new era of unity, development, progress and reconstruction of institutions of the Muslims.

International Islamic University, Islamabad is an international seat of Islamic learning, in Pakistan, which provides every opportunity for an all-aroundand harmonious development of individuals and society and reconstruction of human thought on the foundation of Islam.
Location
The New Campus is located in the H-10 Sector of Islamabad and is fast taking shape as a symbol of Islamic Architecture. Its 704 acre land provides ample scope for future expansion including housing for teachers, students and employees and sports facilities. All the teaching Faculties, a general library, and a large number of student’s hostels are located on this Campus.

The Old Campus is located around the Faisal Masque in Islamabad (46 acres). The four Institutes and Academics (Islamic Research Institute, Iqbal International Institute of Research & Dialogue, Shariah Academy & Dawah Academy), Dr. Hamidullah Library, a six hundred seat Auditorium, and a Guest House are located on this Campus.

Introduction
The foundation of the University was laid on the first day of the 15th Hijrah Century, Muharram 1, 1401 (November 11, 1980). This landmark of the beginning of the new Century Symbolize the aspirations and hopes of the Muslim Ummah for an Islamic renaissance. The desire to produce scholars and practitioners, imbued with Islamic learning, character and personality, and capable to meet the economic, social, political, and intellectual needs of modern times is the aim of this university.
The University starts as “Islamic University” with only 9 students in its LL.M degree Program and classes being held at the Campus of Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. The University was upgraded, restructured and reconstituted as “International Islamic University” with the promulgation of the International Islamic University Ordinance by the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in March 1985.
With 8 faculties and 5 autonomous academies, institutes and centers the University is conducting around 58 academic programs with enrollment of over 12,000 students that include around 5,500 girl students.
In addition, around 2000 students are enrolled in the Iqra technical center, a constituent unit of the university.
The International Islamic University is a unique institution of higher learning which integrates the two parallel streams of religious and other education systems prevailing in the Muslim world. It provides a system based on universal Islamic principles capable of responding to present day needs and requirements.
History of IIUI

In the year 2007-08 with nine (9) faculties and six (6) autonomous academies, institutes and centers the University is conducting around ninety (90) academic programs with an enrollment of over 12,000 students that include around 5,500 female students.  In addition around 2,000 are enrolled in the Iqra Technical Centre, a constituent unit of the University.  
 
The Vision

To develop an international Islamic seat of higher learning, research instruction and training in various branches of  knowledge with special emphasis on Islamic Studies, Science & Technology, Social Sciences and humanities to be taught, studied, developed and reconstructed in such a way as to produce a balanced and harmonious human personality, duly informed of and embedded in the Islamic world view and infused with Islamic idealism and fully aware of the human intellectual and scholastic heritage, including the most current developments in human knowledge.

The Mission
1. To develop the International Islamic University as the Premier seat of learning in South Asia with special emphasis on Islamic disciplines, the Hadith, Fiqh,History, Islamic Thought & Civilization and Social Sciences occupying the centralposition.

2. To highlight and define the relevance of Islam in changing modern times to thewhole human life, thought and action.

3. To provide a sound intellectual and scholastic foundation for the ideological, moral, intellectual,social, economic and technological development of the Muslim Ummah within the framework of the values, ideals, principles and normsof Islam.

4. To produce skilled personnel for effective implementation of Islamic norms and values and management of Islamic institutions of Pakistan in particular and other parts of the world in general.

5. To foster cooperation and promote mutual understanding among the institutions working for the advancement of Islamic learning and knowledge in different parts of the world for the realization of common objectives.

6. To study and interpret the teachings of Islam in the context of the intellectual and scientific progress of the modern world.

7. To encourage and promote education, training and research in different areas of learning such as social, natural, applied and communication sciences with special emphasis on Islamic learning.

The University achieves these goals by:
  • Providing advance studies, research, education and training in Islamic Disciplines,Humanities, Social, Physical, Natural,Management, and Engineering Sciences;
  • Promoting reinterpretation of modern thought and research in the various fields and seeking practical Islamic approach on contemporary issues facing the Ummah;
  • Devising ways and means to develop Islamic personality, building model Islamic behaviour and conduct, inculcating Islamic values;
  • Making arrangements for proper dissemination of results of research, through publication and other media of communication; and
  • Opening its doors to all without any discrimination of caste, creed, colour, race, religion or sex.

Male Campus
The Government of Pakistan very generously allotted Islamabad, Sector H-10, comprising 704 acres of land, to enable the University to construct and shift to its own new premises and meet its ever increasing needs.
At present three academic blocks and five hostel blocks have been completed and all University faculties are now functioning in new buildings with effect from January, 2002. In addition one academic block is under construction.
As envisaged in the Master Plan of the new campus, the University will be completed in phases of which Stage-I of Phase-I has reached culmination while stage-II is nearing completion. When constructed in its entirety, the University will accommodate 30,000 students (20,000 male and 10,000 female) in 22-25 faculties. In addition, there will be 57 hostel blocks for male students and 28 for female and partial accommodation for teaching/research and administrative staff.
The layout of the campus and all the buildings to be constructed there have been designed by renowned architects. Due regard has been paid to landscaping and providing a suitable background to all the structures. The architectural is a judicious blend of the modern and traditional Islamic styles, in keeping with the spirit of the International University.
Apart from the administrative blocks and teaching departments, the buildings of the various institutes and academies and the hostels, there is to be a beautiful central mosque and a unique central library. Provision has been made for a commercial center and shops for the resident staff and the students. Altogether the total campus when complete will be an attractive addition to the existing architectural charms of Islamabad.

The Female Campus
A womanly environment with a number of unique features!

Parents who are reluctant in sending their daughters for higher studies to academic institutions of co-education may find the Female Campus (FC) of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) one of the best places for their female children where an absolutely feminine environment equipped with the latest teaching facilities provides excellent learning opportunities on bachelor, masters and doctorate level.

Situated in Sector H-10, Islamabad near the new main campus of IIUI, the magnificent faculty block of IIUI FC, along with three hostel blocks, hosts more than 5500 female students from across the world. Representing more than 25 countries, the students’ community at IIUI FC has truly an international and multi-culture environment that has contributed substantially to the academic excellence and intellectual growth of the female students of IIUI. More than 80 study programmes from bachelor to doctorate level include Shariah and Law, Economics, Banking and Finance, Education, Literature of English, Arabic and Persian, Comparative Study of Religions, Software Engineering, Computer Sciences,, Electronics Engineering and so on.
Hijab is one of the most salient features of the University Women Campus. Teachers and students are required to observe the prescribed dress code. Girls covered from head to toe can be seen in good number however liberal dressing is not absent from the seen.

Boarding capacity of the Campus will increase within a year after construction of one more hostel block. The hostels presently host more than 1000 students with professionally administered mess and self-cocking facilities. Supervisory staff of each hostel has a guidance while one lady doctor with fully equipped medical centre along with a 24 hours available ambulance services makes the hostel facility one of the best in the city. It, comparison with the number of students. It is why students from foreign countries and then of the remote areas are accommodated absolutely merit.

Each faculty has its own departmental library that is fully utilized by the girls; however, after the construction of new building of central library of the University is completed recently, the FC main library has been shifted to central library that is kept reserved for female students for three days a week, The library with more than 2,00,000 books has some reserved rooms for newspapers and periodical that is open six days a week only for female students. Male students and teachers are barred to visit the library during the specified day and girls are dealt and guided by female staff of the library on ‘on Female Day’.

One more feature that gives FC of IIUI a unique edge over rest of the institution is its Day Care Centre (DCC). Female teachers, administrative staff and students can have their infants admitted in DCC where female staff takes care of the kids in an extremely conducive environment for nominal charges.

First Women Bank, large canteens and PCOs with female staff give more womanly touch to the Women Campus of IIUI while seven computer labs extend free Internet facility to all students and teachers. Besides multimedia, overhead projectors, fax and photocopy facilities the campus has Distance Learning Facility that enable female student to attend lectures delivered in the main campus or foreign universities. Along with a Research Corner for MPhill and PhD students, the campus has two laboratories for learning of Arabic and English Languages.

Under the supervision of two (female) sports officers girls are systematically encouraged to take active part in sports like volley ball, basket ball, cricket, trekking, badminton, athletics, races and table tennis while regular recreational trips and study tours to various parts of the country are conducted on periodical basis.

With one of the most efficient and well-disciplined transport fleet the Women Campus of IIUI is a full fledged women University that provides state of the art teaching equipments in international environment that is totally dedicated to the daughters of the nation.

Facilities :
Computer Labs

Students at this campus have an environment that is very conducive for studies. There are three large size computer labs fully equipped with the latest IT accessories. It also holds a rich library containing a vast collection of books. The campus is one of the best-kept in town and is located at a very convenient location.

 
Language Laboratories

The University maintains two separate language laboratories for Arabic and English Departments. These laboratories are well equipped with modern techniques of teaching the languages to the students of the University. There are well trained teachers who skillfully use the laboratory techniques and supplement classroom teaching in listening and training skills.

 
Library

University maintains six well equipped Libraries in all fields of Islamic Ulum. Specialized Library for Research Scholars is being maintained in the Islamic Research Institute. Also Departmental Libraries are provided with all important texts and recommended books. Besides, reading material is made available by the Photostat Service Units on the recommendations of teachers. In addition, there is a Book Bank in the main Campus of the university lending books to the students on semester basis.
The Faculty of Management Science has its own library with journals, periodicals and books on all aspects of management, computer and IT education. The library is being continuously updated with the latest editions of relevant books.

Hostel

There are no seats available in the University Hostels. The few seats which became occasionally available are allotted to overseas students.

 
Medical Care

The university maintains Medical Centres for male and female students under the care of qualified doctors for free treatment of minor ailments. Cases of serious nature are referred to Government Hospitals in Islamabad for hospitalization and treatment which is free of cost for the bonafide students of the University. The Centre has also set up a laboratory to conduct various tests.
The Medical Centre has an ambulance at its disposal to meet any emergency.

 
Banking Facility

For payments, receipt and remittances, the Habib Bank Limited maintain two branches in the old as well as in the new campus of the University. Profit and Loss Saving Bank accounts are opened and deposits accepted under normal banking procedures. The Bank welcomes the students to open their personal accounts and render them all banking service with courtesy and consideration. All students admitted to the University are advised to open their accounts with this bank. This also helps in their transactions with the University. ATM facility is aslo present at H-10 Campus to facilitate the students.

 
Financial Support

No financial assistance is given by International Islamic University, Islamabad in the first semester. Financial assistance to deserving students is considered after completion of first semester, on the basis of academic performance and need to be determined by Faculties and respective departments. Student can apply for financial assistant with all the required information after the end of first semester. The Faculty Scholarship Committees recommend the deserving cases to the President, IIU for approval. Those who are granted financial assistant are required to maintain CGPA 3.00/4.00 for continuance of financial assistant. Approximately 5-10% of the students are granted financial assistance. All the admitted students are required to deposit full tuition fee and other charges before commencement of their first semester. Students are advised not to fully rely on financial assistance as depending upon the available resources; the university may discontinue financial assistance at any stage.

Worker Welfare Fund:

Worker Welfare Fund (WWF), Ministry of Labor, Government of Pakistan Provides full financing for sons and daughters of registered industrial workers of public and private industrial units, if they pass test for admission for the academic programs at IIUI. University facilitates applicants for assistance from Worker Welfare Fund (WWF).

ICT R&D Sponsored Students:

ICT R&D Fund is a project of Ministry of Information Technology, Government of Pakistan provides full financial assistance to the meritorious students of less developed and rural areas of Pakistan for education in the field of Information Technology and Engineering disciplines. Fund carry out their own selection procedure through NTS. International Islamic University, being partner to ICT R&D Fund provide admissions to successful students of ICT R&D Fund

 
Sports & Recreation

The University has started a modest program in Hostels for indoor games. Volley ball, basket ball and football, cricket, athletics and other activities such as hiking, trekking and recovering etc. are also arranged to provide recreation and ensure physical well being of students.

 
Transport

The University has its own transport facilities and is also connected with Public and Private Transport system. Students living in Rawalpindi/Islamabad are provided the facility of conveyance at concessional rates subject to limited routes.

 
Post Office

There is a branch of Post office on the premises of the old campus of the University. Postal Stamps vending and Registration, Money Order remittance services are provided during working hours. Public Call Office is also available. Establishment of a branch of Post Office on the Premises of New Campus is in process.

Organizational Chart

The supreme authority of the university vests in the board of Trustees. The President of Pakistan is the Chancellor of the university. He is assisted by a Pro-chancellor and a Rector. The execution of the policies laid down by the board of Trustees is the responsibility of board of Governors. The day to day functions of the university are performed by the president, assisted by the vice president, Directors-General of institutes and academies, Deans of Faculties and Director, Academic and Administration.
