The Department of Bioinformatics, FOCIT, in collaboration with IEEE Islamabad Section Young Professionals, organized the 1st CBB Hands-On Training Workshop on Data Analysis (SPSS and MATLAB) on 22nd & 23rd May 2024. The event commenced with the recitation of Quranic verses, creating a solemn and respectful atmosphere for the workshop. Dr. Salma Imtiaz, Chairperson of the Department of Software Engineering, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the critical importance of data analysis in contemporary research and professional practice. She emphasized the importance of data analysis skills in today’s technological landscape and highlighted the department’s commitment to providing high-quality training opportunities for students and professionals. The two-day workshop was meticulously designed to offer in-depth, practical training on data analysis using SPSS and MATLAB. On the first day, Dr. Mehrosh Khalid, Chairperson of DOB, led a comprehensive hands-on session on MATLAB. Her extensive expertise in data analysis, machine learning, and artificial intelligence enabled participants to gain a profound understanding of MATLAB applications, particularly in solving biological problems. The second day was dedicated to SPSS training, conducted by Engr. Muzamil Mahmood, Chair IEEE Islamabad Section Young Professionals. His session focused on the practical aspects of using SPSS for data analysis, providing participants with the skills necessary to analyze and interpret complex data sets effectively. The workshop concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Asmat Ullah Khan, Dean of the FOCIT. He commended the organizers and resource persons for their exceptional efforts and emphasized the importance of such workshops in fostering academic and professional growth among participants. Shields were presented to the resource persons by Dr. Asmat Ullah Khan, acknowledging their valuable contributions. In a gesture of appreciation, Dr. Sadia Saleem, the Chief Guest, presented a shield to Dean Dr. Asmat Ullah Khan, recognizing his leadership and support for the event.
