IIUI’s 21st Cultural Event for Male from April 21st
It will project Islam’s soft image, Dr. Anwar Siddiqui
The 21st International Islamic Cultural Event for male will be held from 21st to 23rd of April 2009 at the Male Campus of the International Islamic University H-10 Islamabad (IIUI). It was announced by Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, President IIUI while chairing a meeting of the event’s organizing committee which was attended by a large number of faculty members, executive officers and students.

Vice President of the university Parveen Qadir Agha, Student Advisor Dr. Abdul Jabbar and Chairman organizing committee of the event Dr. Zia-ul-Haq were also present on the occasion. Dr. Siddiqui said that the aim of the cultural event is to highlight soft image of Islam and Pakistan all over the world because Islamic university has a student population of over 20,000 from Pakistan and 57 countries of the world. Dr. Siddiqui added that the Islamic University is well aware of the fact that the world is in need of projection of Islam as a savior of the ailing humanity. This can be done through presenting Islam’s soft image and abandoning extremism. The cultural event to include Qirat, Hifz, Naat, Quiz, Poster competitions, Debates (Arabic, English & Urdu), International exhibition, cultural night and a Mushaira.

21st Annual Cultural Activities for Female start at IIUI MNA Khusbkhat Shujaat inaugurates
The 21st Annual Cultural activities of the female campus of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) started here on 26th March 2009. The theme for this year’s cultural activity is “A World Beyond Achievement”. Khusbkhat Shujaat, member National Assembly of Pakistan, was chief guest at the opening ceremony. Wife of the ambassador of Tajakistan and a large number of Diplomats and their spouses also attended the ceremony. Students from 47 countries of the world exhibited their cultural diversity in International Islamic Cultural Exhibition as part of the annual cultural activities of the university.

Khusbkhat Shujaat in her speech stressed upon the need of creativity in the Youth to scale heights in their lives. She added that a person who has an aim to be successful in life has to always dream for achievements to work for that. She asked the students to focus on their studies in a way to preserve their Islamic identity. She said that Islam is a complete code of life and it has given full opportunities to male and female without discrimination. Khusbkhat Shujaat lauded the role of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) for presenting Islam in a way to meet the challenges of the modern day world.

The inaugural ceremony was also addressed by the President IIUI Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, who announced that the university would soon launch its department of fine arts to provide space for teaching of this very neglected side of Islam. He said that Islam is not against arts but it promotes useful and beneficial arts to make this world a heaven of peace. Vice president of the university Parveen Qadir Agha who is also director of the female campus of the university presented the overall report to highlight cultural activities of the female students of the university. Meanwhile a function to highlight Pakistan Movement was also held as part of these cultural activities. Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector IIUI was chief guest.

IIUI Head Participates in Tehran Moot on “Unity of the MUSLIM WORLD"
Dr. Anwar H. Siddiqui, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) participated in 22nd International Conference on ‘Unity of the Muslim World’ under the theme of “Strategic planning for the Muslim Ummah to Counter Challenges Facing its Integrity” held in Tehran recently under the auspices of Ayatullah Taskhiri, Secretary General of the International Organization for Proximity of Muslim Schools of Thought. The Conference was inaugurated by Ayatullah Hashmi Rafsanjani, former President of Iran and was participated by a number of scholars from all over the Muslim world.

Maulana Sami ul Haq, Allama Sajid Naqvi, former Senators Prof. Ibrahim Khan, Prof. Muhammad Sayed and other dignitaries also participated from Pakistan. Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui presented a paper on “Diversity in Islamic Civilization and strategies for the Unity of Ummah” which was highly appreciated. Dr. Siddiqui in his paper spoke on Concept of a civilization, characteristics of Islamic Civilization and other issues. He also presented some suggestions for effective unity among Muslims.

Dr. Siddiqui and other delegates also called on the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatullah Ali Khamnaei, the President of Iran, Mr. Mahmood Ahmadi Nejad and other senior leaders, and also participated in the Grand function presided over by Ayatullah Ali Khamanai and participated by the President of Iran Mr. Ahmadi Nejad, Ministers, Members of Parliament, leading personalities of Iran in the Meelad-un-Nabi function on 17th Rabiul Awwal at the culmination of Hafta-e-Wahdat Celebrated from 12th Rabiul Awwal to 17th Rabiul Awwal. Dr. Siddiqui also visited the Mausoleum of Imam Roohulallah Khomini and offered Fateha there.

IIUI holds ceremony for Integrated Encyclopedia of the Qu’ran Encyclopedia to have Seven volumes spread over 5000 pages
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with Society for the Qur’anic Studies arranged a ceremony to introduce Integrated Encyclopedia of the Qur’an under the slogan of “West No More! We are Alive” at its new campus on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector IIUI said that the Muslims are lacking far behind others in research and quality education. It is a hard reality that non Muslim scholars were pioneers in even Qur’anic research. Professor Malik however appreciated efforts of Dr. Muzaffar Iqal and Society for the Qur’anic Studies and Center of Islam and Science Canada for initiating the Integrated Encyclopedia of the Qur’an Project. He hoped that this project would pave way for other scholars to follow the pattern and enhance their research on modern footings.

Dr. Muzaffar Iqbal in his speech said that the anti Muslim Western scholars /Orientalists funded by agencies of different Western governments and some private financiers were in forefront of research on Islam. However they were generally distorting the true face of Islam. Dr. Muzaffar said that keeping in view this situation society for the Qur’anic Studies was established in Canada which undertook this project of Integrated Encyclopedia of the Qur’an. He added that the Encyclopedia would consist of seven volumes containing over 660 articles spread over approximately 5,000 pages. Muslim scholars from all over the Muslim world as well as from the Western world having academic qualifications and internationally accepted research / Publications have been carefully selected to contribute to this noble venture Dr. Muzaffar Iqbal concluded. The introductory ceremony was also addressed by Dr. Zafar Ishaq Ansari, Vice President IIUI and other scholars. Commitments of donations for the project were also made on the occasion.

It is worth mentioning that this encyclopedia project has been started by the society for Qur’anic studies under the guidance of Dr. Muzaffar Iqbal, founder president of Center of Islam and Science, Calgary, Canada as its General Editor. Its associate editors include Dr. Afifi Al-Akiti, Research Fellow, Oxford University, Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghazali, Professor & head of social science, IRI, IIUI, Dr. Muhammad Akram Nadwi, Research Fellow, Oxford University, UK, Dr. Gibril Fouad Haddad, Author & Scholar, Brunei Darussalam, Dr. Adi Setia, Professor IIU Malaysia and Dr. Abdullah Bin Hamid Ali, Research Fellow, Zaytuna Institute, CA, USA. Its Assistant Editors include Dr. Basit Karim and Dr. Zacharia Al-Khatib. Muhammad Isa Waley, British Library, London, UK is its language editor.

As per new policy for all the admissions in computer science department, from fall 2009 and onwards the eligibility criteria is as under:

Admission criteria for PhD/MS
  1. Merit for Admission in PhD/MS will be based on educational qualification, GAT Test and Interview. Weightage for MS/PhD (CS & SE) is as under
    • 40% Education Qualification (Matric + Intermediate + BS/MCS/MSC)
    • 40% GAT score (subject test both for MS and PhD)
    • 20% Interview
  2. Min GAT score for Admission
    • 50% GAT score for MS/PhD (CS & SE)

IIUI Gets 3rd Position in All Pakistan Inter University Rovering Championship
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) won (3rd) third Position in All Pakistan Inter university rovering Championship held at the Islamia University Bahawalpur under the Higher Education Commission (HEC). IIUI Bids Farewell to its Former Rector Dr. Manzoor
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) arranged a reference to pay tribute to its former Rector Dr. Manzoor Ahmed. A large number of faculty members and executive officers attended the reference. Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik newly appointed Rector IIUI said that Dr. Manzoor Ahmed was a symbol of dedication for giving direction to enhancing quality research at the university. He added that it was Dr. Manzoor who brought a basic change in the concept of the functioning of the IIUI. Dr. Manzoor always stressed upon making the university a hub of knowledge.

Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui President IIUI said that Dr. Manzoor Ahmed worked day and night for progress of the university. He told that Dr. Manzoor pushed university towards academic excellence. Dr. Manzoor helped and guided a number of students in their research projects. Vice Presidents of the university Dr. Zafar Ishaq Ansari and Ms. Parveen Qadir Agha in their speeches said that Dr. Manzoor will be remembered by the university for a long time. Dr. Manzoor Ahmed in his speech stressed upon making universities centers for creation of knowledge and not just degree awarding institutions. He added that it was his life long dream to see students and teachers marching towards excellence to face modern world challenges.

  جنوبی ایشیا کے اہل علم نے اسلامی فکر کے ارتقاء میں بھرپور کردار ادا کیا ہے اور اسلامی علوم وفنون کی ترویج و اشاعت میں ان کی خدمات قابل قدر ہیں۔ فقہ اسلامی کا نام ان علوم میں سر فہرست ہے۔ بر صغیر کے علماء نے فقہ، اس کے اصول اور قواعد پر معرکۃ الآراء کتب تصنیف کی ہیں۔ اس سے بڑھ کر یہ کہ فقہ اسلامی برصغیر میں مسلمانوں کی حکمرانی کے تقریباً تمام ہی ادوارمیں ملکی قانون کے طور پر نافذ رہی ہے۔ نوآبادیاتی دور میں بھی مسلم عائلی قوانین اسی فقہ سے ماخوذ تھے۔جنوبی ایشیا میں اب بھی کئی ادارے فقہ اسلامی کی اشاعت و ترویج اور نفاذ کے لیے کوشاں ہیں۔ اس پس منظر میں ضرورت اس امر کی ہے کہ فقہ کی توسیع و ترقی کے لیے کی جانے والی ان کوششوں کو اجاگر کیا جائے۔ فقہ کے ارتقاء کا عہد بعہد جائزہ لیا جائے اور فقہ کی تاریخ کا تجزیاتی اور تنقیدی مطالعہ کیا جائے۔ اس مقصد کے لیے ادارہ تحقیقات اسلامی ایک سہ روزہ سیمینار بعنوان '' جنوبی ایشیا میں اسلامی قانونی فکر اور ادارے ''منعقد کر رہا ہے ۔

IIUI old graduate gets International distinction
Dr. Ali Adnan Ibrahim, an LL.B (Hons) Shariah & Law graduate of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) (1992) has recently completed his doctorate in law from a premier law school in the United States and was the first Pakistani lawyer to win the Fulbright Doctoral scholarship to pursue the most advanced legal studies in law, Dr. Ibrahim has completed the Doctorate of Juridical Sciences (SJD) program with distinction from one of the world’s leading institutions of legal education, Georgetown University Law Center (GULC). Having been conferred the SJD, Dr. Ibrahim has joined a community of legal scholars worldwide, and community of the Fulbright scholars. He is the third Pakistani and the first from the IIUI alumni to earn this degree.

Dr. Ibrahim’s doctoral research was on integration of Islamic Finance with International Financial Markets. Keeping in view his brilliant performance, GULC invited Dr. Ibrahim to design and to teach a course to the graduate students as an adjunct professor of law, an honor very rarely offered to a student during his studies. He has also been invited to take advisory positions on the boards of various development organizations. Dr. Ibrahim’s research articles have been published in the top legal research journals including those published by Islamic Development Bank and Harvard Law School.

Dr. Ibrahim has been a practicing lawyer with several years of legal practice in Pakistan and part of the visiting faculty of IIUI. Dr. Ibrahim is currently associated with the law firm of Baker & McKenzie in Bahrain as a counsel.
