The Faculty of Social Sciences provides a challenging and supportive learning environment for students, including leading-edge collaborations with local, national, and international communities. The Faculty supports and encourages innovative faculty research and scholarship reflecting the wide breadth of interests and expertise in the social sciences. The Faculty is committed to enhancing the quality of life through its varied educational and research activities.
The Faculty of Social Sciences was established in 2000, initially with two departments namely Department of Education and Department of Political Science & International Relations (now renamed as Department of Politics & International Relations). It offered M.A. degree programs both in Education and Political Sciences & International Relations (now renamed as Politics & International Relations). Each program attracted a sizable number of male and female students from within and outside the country, including Muslim as well as non-Muslim countries of the world. In the year 2003, the Faculty passed a milestone when it launched Ph.D. programs in the disciplines of Education and Politics & International Relations. Each program has been greatly welcomed by the students and a big number of male as well as female candidates applied to seek admission in these programs. Presently, FSS is 2500 students strong, with 90 permanent Faculty. We are made up of 8 Departments in male campus and 8 departments in women campus.
The Faculty has at its disposal the services of internationally reputed scholars most of them possessing Ph.D. degrees. The medium of instruction in the Programmes in English and Arabic. The International Islamic University provides its students with modern knowledge along with a strong Islamic component because it is convinced that education must go in tandem with Islamic morality and ethics. In pursuance of the objectives of the University, and to encourage and promote education, training and research in social, natural and applied sciences, this Faculty is striving to produce social scientists, executives and teachers who shall contribute to the development of Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah. Our aim is to produce man-power who can face challenges posed by the modern world.
