08th Convocation of IIUI to held on 07th October 2010

The 08th Convocation of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) will be held on 07th October 2010 on Thursday. 2300 (Two thousand & three hundred) graduates of the university from September 2008 to August 2009 shall be conferred their degrees. 37 Gold medals and 3 PhD degrees shall be also part of the Convocation. It was announced by Gulzar Ahmed Khawaja Chairman Convocation Management Committee and Director Academic Planning and Coordination (APC) of the University.

IIUI Distributes relief at DIKhan & Bakkhar

The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) distributed relief at Basti Ali and Basti Dhakki of Dera Ismail Khan and Bakhar. According to details, a team comprising by Khurshid Alam, Director Finance and coordinator of Task Force for affectees, Deputy Director IRI, Mr. Muhammad Jamil, Principal librarian Muhammad Rafique, Deputy Directors Sports and Public Relations Syed Manzoor Hussain Shah and Syed Muzammil Hussain shah respectively, Assistant Director Dost Muhammad, Nusrat Hussain Department of Urdu and student of Software Syed Ghalib Hassan.

The Group distributed relief goods to over 200 families of those villages which were badly damaged by the flood in River Indus. In Bhakkar a delegation of local notables led by Mr. Iqbal Ghuncha Advocate also called on the IIUI delegation and appreciated universities’ effort for flood affectees.

Dr. Siddiqui, President IIUI in the 500 Most Influential Muslims

Prof. Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, President of the International Islamic University, Islamabad which is currently celebrating its Silver Jubilee, has been named amongst the 500 most influential Muslims of the year 2010 by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center. This Centre is an independent research entity affiliated with the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought. The Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought is an international Islamic non-governmental, independent institute headquartered in Amman, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Center has published the third edition of its book entitled: “THE 500 MOST INFLUENTIAL MUSLIMS 2010”. This publication provides a window into the movers and shakers of the Muslim world. It highlights people who are influential as Muslims, that is, people whose influence is derived from their practice of Islam or from the fact that they are Muslim. It gives valuable insight into the different ways that Muslims impact the world, and also shows the diversity of how people are living as Muslims today.

This is a singular honour not only for the President but for the University itself as it feels proud that it is led by a renowned personality of the Muslim world. Dr. Siddiqui’s association with the International Islamic University dates back to its founding years as he has been entrusted with several important and strategic assignments from time to time during the past 25 years because of which the University has expanded in many directions: whether by way of setting up of academic Departments, introduction of qualified Faculty, growth of the University budget, growth of infrastructure and all resulting in the growth in the enrollment of students, thus bringing it to the position of the 3rd largest Public Sector University of the country.

Inauguration of Maryam Block at IIUI

Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) inaugurated newly constructed block (Hazrat Maryam Block) at Female Campus of the university. Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui President IIU, Mrs. Parveen Qadir Agha Vice President IIU, Faculty Members, Administrative Officers and a large number of students were also present on the occasion.

Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik while speaking on the occasion said that the construction of the new block increased the space for female students. In addition to class rooms there are laboratories too, which have latest facilities at this block.

Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui said that the university determined to provide state-of-Art facilities to its students especially female students. He added that a gymnasium for female students is also under construction and will be completed soon. He hoped that three more female hostels shall be constructed, when funds are released by the Govt. of Pakistan as promised by the prime minister at last convocation of the university.

The inauguration ceremony was also addressed by Mrs. Parveen Qadir Agha Vice President IIUI who said that foundation of this block was laid by Dr. Anwar Siddiqui thirty months back and he himself was able to see the block completed. Dr. Ehsan Ullah Khan Dean Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences also addressed the gathering.

IIUI Hosts Seminar On “United States, Pakistan and China Relations in the Changing Regional Scenario”
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) hosted a seminar on “United States, Pakistan and China Relations in the Changing Regional Scenario” in collaboration with Pakistan-China Institute. Prominent US Scholar, Prof. Stephen Cohen, was the keynote speaker on the occasion. Others speakers included Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui President IIU, Mushahid Hussain Sayyed, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed Director International Institute for Research and Dialogue IIUI.The speakers highlighted the role of friendly relations among United States, Pakistan and China for benefit of the region as a whole. They were of the view that confrontation in relations among these countries may result in further destabilization of not only this region but whole the world as well.

Of Prof. Stephen Cohen in his keynote address said that it is in best interest of the United States to acknowledge the role of China and Pakistan in the changing world scenario as no single country is capable of giving this world peace and stability. Although the world powers look into their interests especially economic but at the same time other factors may also be given equal or due importance. Prof. Stephen Cohen added that the world powers should recognize China as a developed country and should not see it as hostile to the world peace. He admitted that it was China who always played a positive role in the world soon after its independence in 1949. Since that year China did not violate the international rules and thus it has capability to provide world a model to be followed at large.

Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui speaking on the occasion highlighted the role of the educational institutions especially of the International Islamic University for peace and harmony in the society. He said that the university deriving from Islamic conjunctions preparing young generation to shoulder their responsibilities in building future of the human beings. The university, Dr. Siddiqui added that has accepted the role of China as a global stake holder and thus it has opened its doors for Chinese students to study not only Islam but other disciplines of knowledge.

Mushahid Hussain Sayyed spoke on role of Pak-China Institute and said that it was established to strengthen relations with China in all walks of life. Former foreign secretary Riaz Ahmed Khan, Former Pak envoy to UK and USA Dr. Maliha Lodhi and others also addressed the gathering.

Dr. Siddiqui Welcomes New Students
Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, President of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) addressed the fresher students (new intake) of Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) during the Faculty’s Fresher week. Address by the President of the university is a tradition set in the faculty to inspire and motivate the new students. The Dean, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed gave a presentation on the achievements, milestones and futuristic vision of the engineering programs in the university.

The President also applauded the Dean and his team to make the Faculty of Engineering a rising star not only in the university but in the engineering community with many new dimensions added to the overall structure of the faculty such as establishment of more than 20 state-of-the art laboratories in the Electronic Engineering, establishment of Department of Mechanical Engineering, excellent scoring acquired in Engineering Council’s assessments, initiation of Technology Incubation Facility, Alumni Mobilization & Outreach, Quality Assurance, Guidance & Counseling Unit, Internship, Career Planning & Industrial Liaison Cell, Knowledge Resource Group, Electronic Design Suite, etc.

It was further appreciated that initiatives taken by the faculty such as open house, nation-wide seminar series and international conferences have certainly raised the university’s visibility on the international scientific map. The changing scenes of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology during the last two years have brought excellent academic standards as well as research output with a vibrant and dynamic strategic partnership program with national organizations and top-ranked international universities. This has raised the employability of our graduates almost double this year with winning positions as well as placements at international scholarships. The President congratulated the students enrolled in engineering programs, which have come from the depth and breath of the country after an intense competition. Further, the President motivated them to compete for the excellence.

He told that Sardar Asif Ahmed Ali, Federal Minister for Education shall be the chief guest on this occasion.
IIUI Distributes relief at Charsadda & Muzaffarabad
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) distributed relief at village Condry Dulat Poora, Charsadda and Bela Makri Muzaffarabad. According to details, a team comprising Mrs. Parveen Qadir Agha, Vice President IIUI with representatives of the Academic Staff Association (ASA), Officers Welfare Association (OWA) and University Staff Welfare Association (USWA) reached Condry Charsadda. Other members of the team included Mrs. Nuzhat Zareen, Deputy Director, Sidra Choudhary of Mass Communication department, Sara Gondal, Nadia Malik and Farha Riaz all Assistant Admin Officers. A group of Pakistan Youth Hostels Association (PYHA) led by its honorary secretary Agha Afzal also joined IIUI relief camp of Condry.

Both IIUI and PYHA jointly distributed relief in cash and kind among flood affectees of that village. IIUI and PYHA joint delegation also conducted a door-to-door survey at that most damaged village of charsadda. Another team of the IIUI task Force for flood affectees visited Bala Makri Muzaffarbad Azad Kashmir. The delegation was led by Khurshid Alam Director Finance and coordinator of Task Force for affectees.

The Group distributed cash relief to 65 families of that village which was badly damaged by the flood in River Neelam. The Muzaffarbad delegation comprised Syed Manzoor Hussain Shah, General Secretary OWA, Chan Zeb, representative of USWA, Deputy Directors Muhammad Jamil, Syed Muzammil Hussain, Sajjad Siddiqui and Assistant Directors Ishtiaq Ahmed, Noor Hussain.

The Delegation also visited Al-Khidmat Foundation office Muzaffarbad and obtained information about damage caused by the Flood and quamtom of relief affectees in Azad Kashmir Region.

UK Varsity Dy. Chief Visits IIUI
Professor Ashraf Jawaid, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Bedfordshire University UK visit the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). He called on Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, President IIUI and esteemed his views on academic cooperation between IIUI and his university. He also informed Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui on establishment of linkage between his university and the Islamic university Professor Ashraf Jawaid also attended a briefing by IIUI Deans and Directors. It is worth mentioning that the linkage between university of Bedfordshire and IIUI shall initially cover Departments of Education, Psychology, Sociology, Mass Communication, Law, Computer Science and Business Administration of IIUI.

IIUI HAS OVER 20 THOUSAND STUDENTS AND 625 FACULTY MEMBERS
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has over 20 thousand students studying in almost all fields of knowledge except medicines. The university has 625 faculty members out of which 160 holding Ph. Ds. It was announced here by the administration of the university which strongly denied a news item saying that 100 faculty members were removed from the university strength. The administration said that this news was totally baseless as it has given names of a number of faculty members who were still teaching at the university.

The administration further added that in 2006 the university had just 6 thousand students being taught by 241 faculty members out of which only 38 were holding Ph. Ds. In just four years the university has now a student population of over 20 thousand making it the 3rd largest institution of the country. These students are being taught by 625 faculty members out of which 160 were holding Ph. Ds from Pakistan and abroad.

IIUI establishes research linkage with US laboratory
Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has established a research linkage with world’s most reputed experimental facility, US Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, California, USA. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Dean FET visited the laboratory and conducted experiments using a range of facilities such as Advanced Light Source, Molecular Foundary and Accelerator Fusion Research. The experiments were focused on next generation CMOS nanoelectronics and experimental realization of futuristic quantum computing. Prof. Ahmed stayed with the laboratory for over six weeks and established both research and institutional linkages for future collaboration and experimental access. In the world of science, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is synonymous with “excellence.” Eleven scientists associated with Berkeley Lab have won the Nobel Prize so far.

The National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) decided in its tenth meeting held on June 24, 2010 to award Accreditation Category / Rating X to IIUI BS (Compute Science) degree programme.”

Pakistan is very Important for us

Faculty of Shariah & Law of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) arranged a departure ceremony for the Faculty and students of IIU, who have been selected for ERASMUS MUNDUS scholarships. The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Jen De Kok, Ambassador of European Union to Pakistan. Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, President, IIU welcomed the Chief Guest. He said that IIU has benefitted a lot from the Erasmus Mundus scholarships. In this scheme 27 IIU students and Faculty members have been given scholarships for higher studies in different European Universities. The IIU Erasmus Mundus Project Director and Dean, Faculty of Shariah & Law Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq briefed the participants of the ceremony that IIU has conducted this project successfully and 100% scholarships were utilized.

The performance of the IIU Faculty and students in European Universities is reported excellent and IIU has been rated one of the best University of Pakistan in European Universities. The Chief Guest of the ceremony Jen De Kok expressed his pleasure about his visit of IIUI. He said “I love Pakistan and Pakistani people”. He said “Pakistan is very important for European Union and we will extend all help to Pakistan and Pakistani Institutions for the development of Pakistan”. He also informed the participants that European countries are providing help to the Flood affectees and their effective campaign is continue in European counties for the collection of donation to support the Flood affectees in Pakistan. He congratulated the selectees for Erasmus Mundus Scholarships and informed that Erasmus Munuds is a prestigious scholarship. He said that the Universities selected for this programme are very important. He advised Pakistani students to work hard and seek good reputation for Pakistan and International Islamic University. He proposed to the students and the Faculty that you should reflect your values and respect our values.

This will help you to interact with European culture and civilization. He also emphasized that there are many misconceptions in Pakistan about the European countries and the same type of misconceptions are in European countries about Pakistan and Muslims. It is role of the International Islamic University’s students and Faculty members to remove these misconceptions and to reflect the positive side of IIU and European Union relationship. He said Pakistan is very important for us. Many Pakistanis are living as citizen of European countries. They are contributing in European countries and we would like to see strong, welfare and progressive Pakistan. He thanked the IIU Administration for inviting him in the University. In this ceremony Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir Mansoori, Dr. Muhammad Munir also talked about the importance of the Erasmus Munuds scholarships. On behalf of the selected students Syeda Lubna, Ms Amna Siddiqui, Ms. Samra Dilawar also speak in the ceremony. In the closing ceremony the role of European Education Commission and Virje University Brussels and other partner Universities of Lot 11 was appreciated. The ceremony ended with vote of thanks
