Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui Spells out IIUI Achievements

Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) said that the university has shown unprecedented growth both academically and physical infrastructure during last few years. He stated this in a special message to the IIUI Newsletter which appeared here today.

The Message:

By the grace of Allah we have come to the close of another Academic Year and shall soon be saying good bye to about 1,700 students who will be receiving their degrees in the 8th Convocation of the International Islamic University, Islamabad. This year the University saw an unprecedented growth both academically and by way of physical infrastructure. Amongst our academic activities are the inception of new departments, those of Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Statistics and a programme of Islamiat in Urdu (Evening Classes) while the Department of Urdu has initiated a literary Journal (Mey’ar) which has received all round appreciation.

The New Campus of H-10 Sector is giving a new look with the construction of many buildings provided in its Master Plan. The Administration Block of the University has been completed to the extent that the entire University Administration including the Rector and the President has their permanent offices here. Two Academic Blocks have been added namely those for the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and for the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences. The Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences has started shifting in it from the Spring Semester. An entire new Academic Block has also been added to the Women Campus to accommodate at least 1,000 students from Faculties of Science and Technology. The Faculty Guest House is also nearing completion. A highlight and a long awaited decision is the initiation of the construction of the Central Mosque of the University to be called the “Jamia’ Masjid” which is to be financed initially from our own contributions.

This year the University celebrates its Silver Jubilee (1985-2010) with many events being planned by each Faculty in addition to Mega events. The number of enrolled students has increased; four buses have been added to our existing fleet of 57; about 26,680 trees have been planted at the New Campus and efforts to make the Campus as green as possible are visible. We were able to do all this despite the unfortunate set back of the twin blasts in our sacred University which resulted in the loss of precious human lives of our dear students as well as of physical damage to some of the buildings. Here I would like to appreciate the untiring efforts of my team consisting of the Vice Presidents, Deans, faculty members and the officers and staff of the International Islamic University who have supported me in the above achievements. We are no longer a team, but a University ‘family’.
